OMG there is a new PSP coming out! It is 33 per cent lighter, 19 per cent slimmer, offer better battery life, faster game load times and video output to TVs! yay ;) Now im gonna sell my old PSP cheaply and pay extra to have something that looks and is EXACTLY the same as the original! What a waste of time and money...

Price and video cable options are deciding factors for me here. And that covers Memory Stick Pro Duo Ex Alpha costs too.
I bought a 2gb MicroSD for my DS Lite for £9.99 :) it's £74 for Sony's offering.
heeeey is there a MicroSD>Memory whatever adapter? That would be perfect.

I read that the video output was for UMD movies, and photo's and that actually it will be pretty limited.
Another piece of hardware to sit on my shelf gathering dust....

I can imagine Mr. DarkAlex getting it working with games too. Seriously. PS1 iso loading and VGA out would have me replacing my ageing PS1, and ironically, throw away my biggest reason for getting a PS3 :D

DarkAlex is allegedly getting out of the HomeBrew scene.
We have to say that we are still stunned and unconvinced by this development. We're not saying that it isn't true. What we are just saying is that we couldn't believe it ourselves. On the official website of the great homebrew developer Dark AleX, we found this,
Bye, scene.
I've decided to cease OE development, and leave PSP scene. The reasons are various. One of them is the time it consumes, which I'm losing from other things. The other is related to my security. I didn't like Sony menaces to PS3 hackers. I think it is better to leave now rather than end paying the consequences.
The last time we heard, DAX was skipping FW 3.50 and is working on FW 3.51. We looked around the Internet and various sites mentioned that the news was confirmed to them personally by Dark AleX himself. We don't know what really happened with him and Sony but DAX added that he is avoiding future legal issues with the company.
Dark AleX will surely be missed because of his great contributions to the homebrew community. With all the things he did, maybe the least thing we can do is send our messages of good faith to him. From QJ.NET, good luck DAX on whatever future endeavor you wish to pursue. Thank you for the time you spent with the PSP community.

Don't forget the Gameboy micro which was a GBA SP in a new form factor. (Not saying it wasn't a welcome transition, just that it follows the "same hardware, different form factor" trend).
I won't count the GBA-> GBA SP because they did add the backlight.

Not that we had any doubts, but the September 1st launch of the PSP in the UK earned it the fastest selling console of all time with 185,000 units sold in the first weekend. Ridge Racer, with its juicy frame rate, was the number one selling game.
that doesn't say handheld...it says console. ;)

If they improve the screen so that the poor refresh is addressed, because my current launch psp screen is desperate for that, then I'd consider buying the update.
Heck I bought a fat/slim ps2, gba/gba sp, as ds/dslite so I cant complain about hardware revisions as long as they improve what they currently offer.
Better battery life would be nice too.

Its at your local landfill. Your mother threw it away while you were at school, thinking you were too old for them
and maybe I should have been more careful in my choosing of words because there are SELECT few that are exempt from all for the titles that are coming out. Only ones I can say I probably will buy are the final fantasy games... but even then Im not too sure if I want to because I can just download the ROMS for them rather than pay 30-40 bucks for it. But there definitely hasnt been a PSP game that totally has taken the whole gaming industry to look at the PSP for awhile now...

All the PSP hate on this site is absurd. Sony cashing in, huh? I guess the DS Lite is an entirely different system than the DS, and the GBA SP and second SP and Micro or entirely different systems than the original DS. Shrug.
Anywho, I HATE Sony. Hate em. Hated the Playstation and Playstation 2 and I have no interest in a PS3- but I LOVE my PSP.
I had a DS Lite for a few weeks- got bored of it and sold it. I still play MBL 06 on my PSP almost every day- at least a couple innings. I love the ability to just put it to sleep and then continue playing where I left off at another time.
Am I going to get a new PSP. Hell no- mine still looks and runs perfectly fine. I've always wanted a white PSP though, but I am not going out and buying the new one. Are there a ton of great games for it? I wouldn't say a ton, but there are a lot of great games for it- more, IMO, than what there is on the DS.
But hey, opinions are opinions.
Its at your local landfill. Your mother threw it away while you were at school, thinking you were too old for them.
So sad! Till this day I still say my mother threw away all my old star wars figures. She says the sand ate them at the beach and that I used to throw them in the water and bury them and whatnot, I say that is all nonsense talk!

I'm not too keen on any of these PSP games either. I'd like to play some, but they're hardly enthralling me.
Killzone. w00t, yet another shooter trying to go cross genre.
MGS Portable Ops. Much too linear and compact. Feels like a huge step back unlike the movement from MGS1 to 2. Disposable multiplayer.
Locoroco. Sorry, it might be fun if it wasn't so reminiscent of Gish and Yoshis Topsyturvy.
Lumines. Great puzzle game, but when it's possible for a DS or GBA I'm left wondering what I spent my money on.
The GTA games are the only ones appealing to me. Even then, whoever was in charge keeps bringing out half price PS2 versions which sort of renders the PSP version useless.
All IMO of course, but it must be quite a few opinions if the PSP is trailing half the sales of the DS.

Slow down there fella...those type of things are frowned upon here..anger is a serious thing.
Okay great there are no ground breaking games on the PSP(there aren't much of these anywhere) but there are a lot of good games on the PSP which you might not be interesting in but thats your personal taste not the whole crowd. I'm holding on to my PSP for one good solid reason.
Like I said before I'm not interested in a slim PSP but sony are trying to improve on the product so..

Owning both, I am fairly neutral about DS games vs. PSP. I like some of the PSP games. Currently stuck on one part of Ratchet and Clank. Sooo frustrating!
There is some Final Fantasy Tactics War of the Lions PSP game. Being a FF Tactics junkie, I'm psyched.
Don't really care about the supposed sin of repackaging smaller/cheaper version of the same stuff with the same basic functionality. Seriously! Why is this so bad for any company to do? I kind of like it. The DS Lite is awesome, so let Sony have their fun.

I think the OP was ragging on it because it doesn't actually LOOK different (besides being chrome).
The DS Lite looks like a new machine entirely, much improved design.
This new PSP looks nicer, but it doesn't really look much different, and where that 19% smaller comes in I don't know... because it looks virtually the same size.
Better battery life and a better screen would be tops for the PSP, because it sucks in those areas.

Sometimes the negative is just more obvious then the positive./ that's just the truth sometimes, not just blind fanboism.
Sony hasn't been doing well and it's been showing. That's pretty obvious to a lot of people, it can require a lot more effort to come up with a positive spin when the negative stares you in the face.
I'm no Sony fan, and I'm sure I make more negative comments then positive (which I believe there is more legitimate negativity regarding Sony, hence the reaction). But even so, when some is right and works I don't mind commenting on it.
Uncharted looks great to me, and MGS4 is sure to look and play great. PS3 is the most affordable Blu-ray player out there.
Those are pretty obvious positives, but move the subject to other areas and positives become harder to spot if you aren't trying hard... that's why people get labeled SDF - because they are obviously going out of their way to be positive! heh.

Anyway, The new PSP is kind of a joke. The lighter and thinner is all well and good, the video out is cool I guess, playing games on a TV (which Kaz said you can do) would be okay but the resolution is gonna suck the big one. Better battery is good as is faster loading times.
But those are all things that SHOULD get better as time goes on. I was expecting bluetooth, new design, better screen, maybe sixaxis. I dunno, something to make it more 2007. Oh well...

No i just think nintendo updates have added more.....atleast new features or a new look. But this is a very Sony update, which is fine but I think people were hoping for a ds-ds lite updatte. Sony always slims down, but keeps things similar.
Also there were a few say few good psp games coming....god of war and the new battlefront for star wars...those alone are worth a psp IMO

AS in the Castlevania, i might have to get a PSP if that is the case.
You might want to look at the trailer first. It's a 3-d side scroller. I think it looks horrid, nothing like the style of DS and sprite based castlevanias. But the gameplay might be on point.
I don't really care for the PSP, it doesn't have any games of big interest to me. The new silver finish looks good though.

I'll probably buy this new PSP....or save some money and buy an older one. I really don't like the PSP...the battery life, the look, most games, etc. I have to get it for God of War, Twisted Metal, and a few other games.....I already play my DS like crazy; probably not going to play this thing that much. Still, they could have at least redesigned it.

Not sure if I'll get this new version. I have a PSP (Japanese so region free!) and a DS Lite and I go through phases with each. I think the DS is simply more fun and I like that there are no load times and that I just flip it closed when I'm done. The problem with the DS is that my hands get cramped every time I play it, which sort of takes away from the enjoyment.
When I play the PSP I never get the aches, but it's quite a delicate machine which can be annoying as I have to tote around a big clamshell case. PSP to me has always been the true widescreen ipod. I have a large memory stick so there's always a few films and some tunes on there and I've always thought that, that was pretty cool. In fact, I'm flying to Dubai in a few days so I better transfer some flicks to it.
Cheers, Tommy :)

No big surprises in the filing, although it looks like the PSP Jr. will only be able to output game video via component, while UMD and Memory Stick movies get composite output as well.

^ That's good. I think Sony and it's fanbase have admitted it's never going to overtake the DS and isn't trying to compete with a lower price. £129 is good. Could be lower, but if outlets bundle a free game then it'll make up for it.
