Yellow Submarine iPod rumour surfaces

Special edition iPod may pack every Beatles recorded track made

Though everyone isn't quite aboard - yet - rumours that The Beatles may soon show up on iTunes prevail, with the latest report claiming a special edition Yellow Submarine iPod is in the frame.

Music industry analysts Music Ally believe that plans to bring music from the Fab Four are back on track, following the release of the iPhone.

They go further. While the analysts don't offer any clear time scale for the addition of the tracks to Apple's music service, they do expect a special edition iPod pre-loaded with every track ever produced by the band will debut as part of the new deal.

A TechDigest report also claims music from The Beatles will be made available exclusively through iTunes for one month.

The news follows earlier reports claiming music from the band would be made available in 2008.

Add it to the voluminous Beatles rumours...

But a 'Yellow Submarine' edition iPod would be cool!

According to this website, a special edition Yellow Submarine Beatle's iPod is in the works - supposedly filled with the entire Beatle's library.

Take it with a grain of salt.

Sorry if this has been posted already, I did not see another article.

Sounds like a lotta bullplop to me! Who would want a yellow iPod anyway?!?! Yellow is like the worst color choice for a product period, I don't see it selling well just because it's preloaded with the Beatles catalog. Nice thought but i doubt it actually coming to fruition.

Yea, but I could imagine a U2-esque black iPod with yellow accents.

It does seem a little farfetched, but you never know what Apple will do to tide people over. Throw this out there for the holiday season, let the iPhones sell, then release the 6G iPod.

According to MusicAlly "the Yellow Submarine iPod may be back on Apple's roadmap, now that the iPhone launch is out of the way."

When/if it happens, its expected to tie-in with Beatles track availability on iTunes with "possibly as a one-month exclusive before becoming available through rival digital music services."

Yecch, you won't see me lining up for one of these. Special Edition iPods are lame IMO. I don't have a problem with preloaded music, but the "special edition" unique iPod (like the U2) seems gimmicky.

Plus, what do you think they'd charge for an iPod with the entire Beatles library on it?

If some of the psychedelic graphics from the Yellow Submarine movie could be silk-screened under the clear top-coat (and across the click-wheel) of a full-size iPod, it would look incredible. Might even convince me to upgrade my nano.

Sounds you like actually know the Yellow Submarine music, iMeowbot.

For most of the year I've been using "Pepperland" from the Yellow Submarine album as my default music for iPhoto slideshows. When family members hear that song, they come to my Mac, like Pavlov's dogs, to see whatever photos I'm showing off!

I don't think Apple should start making iPods in odd shapes, but they could put odd-shaped pattern overlays on them.

However, I think I'd quickly get tired of looking at any consumer device that was bright yellow.

I wonder if the yellow submarine iPod will be a widescreen, touch variety.

Extremely unlikely. When Apple released the U2 iPod, it still was the old, monochrome version when the generic iPod model was the new colour model.

They probably reckon the 'branding' will mean it'll sell anyway, so why not brand the older, cheaper-to-produce model and maximise profit.

Why would someone buy this?

To get all the Beatles tracks, the engraved signatures of the four members on the back, and the unique non-nano iPod color (when the black and red U2 edition came out, only white was availible). But most importantly because you're a Beatles fanatic and products like this appeal to fanatics.

And if it is a complete fabrication, it still sounds like a good idea, it'll be a release just like the U2 release I would guess.

In my personal opinion as a Beatles fan having all four signature engravings on any Beatles iPod would be in poor taste considering George and John are dead.

That's doubtful. If they bundle it with music, it will be in the form of an iTunes Store voucher, good towards the purchase of the songs. This is what they did with the U2 editions.
and they are going to start selling beatles music in the store.
If a Beatles edition iPod ships, then that would be a prerequisite.

The rumor of Beatles music becoming available in iTunes has been going around for a long time. Beatles management has strongly implied that this is going to happen, but only as a part of an ongoing effort to remaster all the old songs at higher quality than the currently-shipping CDs. And nobody has said a word about when this will happen, if it actually does.

Someone with more time on their hands than I should figure out just how much it would cost to buy the Beatles' entire library, plus the cost of an iPod...That's gotta be some SERIOUS dough. The phrase "Beatles' entire library" would have to be defined. I imagine that it would include the Beatles Anthology albums, but what about the U.S. vs. U.K. albums, the Beatles "1" album (all songs from other records), music from the Tony Sheridan days, or the songs never released on albums?

I'll leave it to one of those Apple companies to figure it out.

be confusion where there was none before--- Apple iPod (c) Apple Computer........ while Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (c) Apple Music scrolls on the screen. Hmm. Lawyers are going to have a party sorting it out. Expect delays, people.

Doctor Q

EMI, with its attractive catalog of current artists (Coldplay, Gorillaz, Norah Jones, Keith Urban, Yellowcard) and classic rockers (the Beatles, Queen, the Rolling Stones) had a deal to be acquired by Terra Firma (http://www.terrafirma.com/), a European private equity firm led by founder and CEO Guy Hands.

Then Warner Music Group appeared to be coming to EMI's rescue. The European Commission had qualms about mergers between major labels, namely Sony+BMG, but Warner was willing to sell some assets to get the Commission's favor.

Now Warner has backed out, leaving the way clear for the Terra Firma takeover. Their modus operandi is to make strategic changes in a company, so who knows where this will lead, and whether it has a positive or negative effect on Apple Inc.'s possible plans for a Beatles deal.

The "Digital Beatles/Beatles iPod" topic was brought up again at this weekend's "Fest for Beatles Fans" in Chicago. Martin Lewis, one of the ultimate Beatles insiders, claimed that the music would be available within weeks and that the iPod was definitely in the works...just passing on what I heard. Also, next year will be the 40th anniversary of Yellow Submarine which could lead to some sort of tie-in.

mmm, hours of primal screaming. oh wait, that was me while listening to her 70's stuff. hehe

Just looked into the thread. I don't know why people think it'd be yellow. Yellow Submarine artwork has all kinds of big, bright colors. The movie/album already had its big comeback about 5 years ago, odd if they promoted that again.

I like the white album idea much better. Its 40th is also next year and it's a far more important part of their career. The original album jacket didn't have anything printed on the front beyond whiteness and a number. "The Beatles" wasn't printed, but embossed so it bumped out. It'd be a pain for ipod factories to be retrofitted for embossing a white case front, so maybe a grey "The Beatles" like you see on its cover these days.
