New iMacs, new iPods, new OS, it's all good for Apple!!! :D

REally looking for a more professional iWeb program. Something that will allow shopping cart, html code, and MORE! Love the easy to use iWeb program, just want to do more with it.

iPhone 2.0 ... common guys! that is crazy. It hasnt even been a month!

I would love to see some impressive funtionality in the attacment line though. :apple:tv and pod for the most part. A re design on the imac would be cool but the internals of the macs cant change much right now. I want to see some really cool mobile and mini OS updates. Things like the ipod OS and the OS in front row on :apple:tv.

I chose imac because I'll be making the shift from PC to Mac when they finally come out (so they better be good :) ).

I don't mind sticking with Tiger for stability sake. The only feature of leopard I was actually excited about was Time Machine, most of the other features were fairly ho hum.

I agree. Also iLife/iWork were lumped together when they're completely different. I'm waiting for Leopard then I'll upgrade my PB. :) I'm also waiting for iWork, which I'll get when it comes out.

Never mind, the results were quite significant.

And I'm not even in the market (I think).

I'm just ready for some new form factors (seems like forever for the entire line) and something elese besides the phone.

the iPhone 2.0 is a bit soon - I would have voted for a iPhone Update - iChat, Video recording, some sort of file storage / word processor.

word processor / spreadsheet are really the only things i miss from my Nokia 9500 - ($1100 at time of release) but the iPhone has a much better interface

oh yeah - use it as a tethered modem. I want that the most. as much as edge might be slow, when you've got nothing else, its better than nothing for updating a web page or vpn'ing into work to reboot a server.

It felt weird for me to vote for iPod when in the past, I've said "I'm sick of hearing about the iPod -- where are the new Macs?" But now I find myself voting for iPods...I can't wait for the phone-less iPhone with 100gb hard drives. I'm good as far as computers good for a long while -- give me something great to replace my aging iPod Photo with!

definitely an updated/new iMac for me...i'm in the market for a new desktop because the husband and i are tired of using the little iBook in the office. i also might be looking at an iMac in my work office as well.

i haven't had a new iMac since the slot-loading G3's...i'm having withdrawal. :o

Definitely Leopard. If the nearest Apple Store wasn't hundreds of miles away I'd be first in line to buy it! But I wouldn't go so far as to wait in line days or even hours like those did with the iPhone. I'm pretty excited in seeing the new iMac too, but mine still has that new Mac smell so it'll be years before I even think about getting a new one.

friggin iPhone 2.0!??!?! lol the first one is barely out of the door and 300+ people are only interested in iPhone 2.0!

IMHO iLife 07 is the next biggest announcement cos without ilife on your new computer, it wont do much out of the box.. Personally, when i want to show off Macs to non-Mac users, I show off garageband, imovie, idvd and iweb to show how easy it is to do stuff with your media. Im eagerly anticipating the creative new ways we can work with our media.. hopefully a much improved iWeb to make it more mainstream (rather than having to upload to .mac)..

leopard? meh, it doesnt look fantastic.. Time Machine is kinda cool but the rest isnt exactly groundbreaking stuff...

would also love to see the functionality of the iphones coverflow browser mode transferred to itunes...

just MHO

Well, the iPhone isn't perfect. Plenty of people (myself included) think it has some missing critical features (like voice dialing and 3G speeds), and eagerly await a future version that has them included.

FWIW, I voted for Leopard. I don't think the iPhone features I require will be available by the time my Verizon contract comes up for renewal in six months, and after that it'll be two years before I choose again.

Leopard is winning the pole but there are only two posts (including mine) that mention anything about it. I guess ultra-portable powerbook isn't an option which I don't understand since iPhone 2.0 (which will really be iPhone 2G like the iPods) made the list.

But yay! Leopard, I know I can't wait for it.

1. Macbook that supports 4GB of memory (or more!). 2 GB on my current 1st gen is just not enough when running more than one Parallels virtual machine plus a bunch of Mac apps.

2. Mac mini update (please don't kill it). I'd love to replace my aging, noisy, power-draining G4 Power Mac and FreeBSD PC with a single Mac mini. The newfound silence in that room would be deafening!

3. Leopard, goes without saying.

4. If not #2, would settle for a reasonably priced mid range tower. My Power Mac cost me $1200 (edu) brand new in 2002. Bring back that price point (or better) please. No reason why it can't be done, based around a single dual-core Intel desktop chip.

Mac Pro updates.

It's time for Apple to offer more current video card options, and 2 gigs base RAM, as well as 8-cores all around once the Intel price drops happen.

Those old video cards have got to GO.

You mean like they did when they dropped the second-gen iPod mini after only 7 months, replacing it with the nano?

And if the new model is backward compatible with the old one, then the old one will hardly be obsolete.

And even thought the word "most" started with a capital. You can only have one most, one best and thus one option. Maybe you might say then that according to you they are asking the wrong question. In which case you shouldn't be answering the question. It's the same as I ask you: "Besides stealing money from poor old ladies what else do you do?" I'm waiting on the iPal - combination full MacOS X 10.5 handheld computer, digital camera with full auto and full manual settings, music, phone, web browser, email, voice mail, GPS, WiFi, Cellular, Bluetooth, etc. I want one combo device I can stick in my pocket containing a automatic synced copy of my PowerBook so that when I'm on the go I still have an accessible, useable version of all my data and applications. I'm not looking to run Halo, although that might be fun, but it should handle all the regular types of applications and allow full developer access for new programs rather than being crippled like the iPhone. I'm also not interested in a monthly subscription fee. I'll pay for the machine, but I have no desire to be locked into some cellphone plan. That right there is a show stopper on the iPhone.

Cheers

I Chose Leopard, but I wish I could have chose more
iPhone 2.0
- Just give me a bunch of software updates on the iPhone I have,
# Spotlight like search in addressbook / contact list
# Systemwide spotlight like search
# I.M. Client ( aim, gtalk, yahoo, MSN, bonjoure )
# Java support (Safari)
# Some flash support (really not as big a deal to me as the java, but would be nice)
# Ability to highlight,copy paste text system-wide
# Show letters in keyboard with proper case as they will be typed
( uppercase when shift pressed, lower case when it is not. )
# custom ringtones
# when iPhone is sideways (with volume switch on bottom/towards you) for movies etc the volume switch needs to be reversed or the on screen volume indicator needs to show right to left
not left to right to give proper/consistant visual clues
# more bluetooth options ( transfer files (like pics, downloads, word docs, pdfs) to computer(s) other iPhones 'n such, sync, portable keyboard, etc. )
# mobile versions of iWork, (better excel, word support)
# a home folder or somewhere I can download files to from safari, emails, etc. and then access in drive-mode on my computer
# Direct iTunes store access from iPhone
# Modem mode, ability to shre internet connection *through USB or Bluetooth) with a computer

iMac Updates
- I don't really care, I don't have one and am not in the market for one unless Apple wants to make a headless version. Of course all updates and progression of technology are always nice.

MacBook Updates
- I don't really care, I don't have one and am not in the market for one; of course all updates and progression of technology are always nice.

MacBook Pro Updates
- I would be super excited, I'll be in the market for one soon with the school year coming up soon. This would be my main machine for FC-Studio, CS3 and Office apps. (Digital Media major)

Mac Pro Updates
- would be cool, and I'd certainly drool, but probably out of my price range for a while. (A portable machine is higher on the need list for right now)
I would like to see more & better video card options, especially if you want extra video cards for more than 2 displays.

Mac Mini Updates
- Please !!!!!! I want one as a little mini server for home, and to use as a media device (schedule show recordings etc.)
These are great little machines, but I'd like to see C2D and a non integrated video card option

iPod Updates
would be cool, I just wouldn't be in the market for one any time soon.

Leopard
Who wouldn't be excited about this, this will have some effect on all other updates (more or less to some degree). I'm excited to be able to use the remote help in iChat, and all the other Leopard goodness we will get :-)

iLife/iWork '07
Excited, depening on how "good" the updates are would depend on if I would buy the upgrades or not. iWeb needs some attention, Keynote is great I'd like to see the return of built in clip-art, and an export for interactive shows to DVD Studio or iDVD would be geat.

Apple TV Update
The fact that so many hackers are at work on this is sort of evidence that the Apple TV really isn't meeting everyones needs. Don't get me wrong, it's a great machine just not one I personally can drop the cash on for what it does right now. I would hope it could be come more of a media center/hub device and not a streaming device. Ditect access to iTunes store would be great, being able to server content to computers and other devices in the home would be great, being able to attach external storage (Firewire / USB) would be nice, some DVR functionality would be cool, and being able to attach an external optical drive that could play disks, or record (backup) content to would be awesome.

Other
- Keyboard , I'd love to see backlighting be standard, I can type without looking generally, but there are times when this is really a nice. A nice looking competitor to logitech's G11 or G15 keyboards would be nice (especially since Logitech doesn't provide any mac support for these keyboards)

I'm sure I could add more, but I've rambled on enough for today :D

Markleshark
Jul 15, 2007, 05:15 AM
Backlit keyboard would rock.

But most of all, a new iPod. Bring it on. The last new iPod I had was the first gen Mini. I want a new one.

I still think there could be something in the pipeline that will take the label "Mac"

one of the area's mac's loose out is a midrange tower thats upgradable with pci-x cards but not as powerful as the big mac pro's

personally i hope they chuck the mac mini hardware into a 3/4 size tower case and give it the extra expansion it needs. They just need to add a keyboard/mouse and there you go.. Your all round "Mac"

I voted for the iMac updates, but I wish you could vote more than once. I would have also voted for Leopard, iLife/iWork 07, and other (the MacBook "Thin"). As for iPhone 2.0, I really hope that doesn't happen just yet. The iPhone just came out 16 days ago! I really wouldn't mind an update, I just don't want the update to delay or "overhype" the Mac updates.

Well, we have some pretty good idea of what Leopard will offer thanks to Apple's announcements, but we have no idea what the new iMacs will be. AS a result, it seems more important to learn more about new iMacs since knowledge about them is more scarce.

I would like to see a new version of iWork. It would be wonderful if iWork had a decent spreadsheet program. It would also be good (although it is highly improbable) if a new iWork would read and write to WordPerfect format. I have used WordPerfect for about 20 years and like it a lot. I have little use for MS Word (although Excel is great software). The only reason I will consider Parallels is that I do not want to give up WordPefect and my 20 years of archives of WordPerfect stuff.

Right now, Leopard and iLife as I am for sure getting those as soon as they come out.

I am slightly interested in an updated Airport Extreme. If it gets gigabit ethernet I might get one. Also on the edge about .Mac. If they up what you get (like storage) with it I will probably get it as well.

Longer term I am planning on buying a Mac Pro in May so I am interested in what comes up in that relm, however, there is a chance I could get two revisions in before then (probably not but I can hope).

You know you don't need to sign a new contract with them, right? If you buy a new phone at a "with contract" price then you do, but you may as well switch carriers if that happens. My contract ends in 9 months and I'll probably just go month-to-month until I decide on a new phone/carrier. I hope AT&T can sell me on their network and plans.

New iMacs. Cannot come out soon enough.

Now, I'm looking forward to both Leopard and a European iPhone, but more than that I'm waiting for new iMacs. I've told my two main employers that this fall I'm hoping for some kind of long term contract (I'm freelancing), but even more important I need my own little office space with a nice and shiny 20-ish inch iMac to go to. I'm tired of alternating between working from home and dragging my MacBook down to their office and just find any available seat and chair.

A Prosumer iMac, 24-26" with more expandabiility and BTO options than the current ones -- to better bridge the gap -- make that a gulf -- between the iMac and the Mac Pro.

Hopefully in another award-winning fresh design with some unexpected new features and some long missing old ones like a tiltable screen, and less of a "chin" even if a bit thicker.

And tho I certainly haven't crunched the numbers, hope the mongers are wrong about the death of the Mini and the 17" iMac.

As switching becomes a tide, Apple will need more entry level options, not fewer, for both consumers -- and a place where tethered computers can still be a growth market for Apple is their growing inroads into business. Plus the K-12 and college freshman markets still matter. So I'd certainly give them one more rev with Leopard and especially for the iMac, a hot new look, and if the refresh doesn't take off, then sadly say Sayonara.

Apple does have to go where consumers want to go, but they also know something about leading by design and have 30 years experience in manufacturing and managing product life cycles -- and now -- while everyone and their brother thinks that Apple stuff is cool -- is their best opportunity in decades to produce a mass market Mac at a competitive price and sell enough of them to overcome any cannibalization of their higher end models and still make more money than ever.

How can any true Mac fan choose anything other than Leopard?!? Sure, Apple's hardware is snazzy, but that's not what you love about your Mac. The thing that Makes you really enjoy using your Mac is the OS! And this new OS looks like it adds a zillion cool new features that are worth jumping for. But even if the many awesome new features don't have you excited, just the refinements to the Finder's GUI should be enough to make any real Mac fan get a significant buzz.

i think spaces has the potential to make exposé a bit obsolete.
The combination of VirtueDesktops and Exposé (especially "Desktop", with an upper-right Active Screen Corner) works rather well for me.

I'm curious how (and how many) people efficiently use Exposé with keyboard shortcuts compared to active screen corners. I'd probably hardly ever use it if it could only be awkwardly invoked with the keyboard. Likely the same for my wife, who astonished me by learning to use Exposé via screen corner activation on her own (after I'd configured it that way) faster than I can remember her ever learning anything about using her Mac, including copy/cut/paste shortcuts. :D

PS: I voted Leopard. New/updated hardware would be next though I don't anticipate what would interest me enough to purchase will appear before Leopard.

Interesting that you mention that... I never use Exposé with corners, using those instead for activating and disabling the screen saver as a means of locking my computer. I have a MacBook Pro, and I have my preferences set such that I can activate Exposé with a simple F9, F10, or F11.

Thanks for explaining that. It's something I'd do far less often than using Exposé, plus locking the computer by accidentally hitting a screen corner would easily be more annoying to me than accidentally activating with Exposé. :)

I have a MacBook Pro, and I have my preferences set such that I can activate Exposé with a simple F9, F10, or F11.
Maybe it's easier with a notebook than desktop keyboard?

I often have the mouse in my right hand when I want to invoke Exposé so it's slow and awkward either tapping the default F-keys with my left hand or moving my right hand off the mouse and back again to do it.

Our differences in Exposé usage might indicate that our general usage styles are quite different. And we may typically use different applications for different amounts of time. It's interesting getting clues to imagine how someone else might be interacting with their system, sometimes discovering a different technique to use along the way. This time, though, I'm stubbornly sticking with my Exposé corners rather than reattempting it it with the keyboard. :)

It would have been nice to see a mid-sided tower option to vote for so we could get an idea in how many people really want one. So I voted 'other' seeing as I couldn't care less about the rest until I get my tower.

I have a Macbook Pro and I prefer a function key if I'm typing away but I also have a two button mouse with a scrollwheel and you can set the click on the scrollwheel to also activate it - that works well in my opinion and is easier than dragging to a corner to activate it.

Btw... I voted for Leopard because I think that's the most interesting thing in the pipeline for me since I already have a nice computer and I'm not interested in some of the other products they'll be releasing.

… I also have a two button mouse with a scrollwheel and you can set the click on the scrollwheel to also activate it - that works well in my opinion and is easier than dragging to a corner to activate it.
Since it feels more natural and comfortable it's easier for me to flick the mouse cursor to a corner than using my middle finger to click the scroll wheel when my index finger is already being used to hold the left button to drag something immediately before invoking Exposé. I do that type of "drag-Exposé-drop" action much more often than using Exposé as a window locator/chooser. If the inverse were true then using the mouse button and/or F-keys might be more tolerable.

Everyone I know personally who's gotten used to using Exposé with hot corners never wants to go back to using it with F-keys. Not sure with mouse invocation since I don't know anyone personally doing that, just posts on the net like yours about it.

I'd be curious to see the results of a "how do you invoke/use Exposé?" poll, though with a bit of searching I'd likely find it's already been done and discussed to death (somewhere, if not at MacPolls/MacRumors). How and why we use software the way we do is a usually a lot more interesting to me than which software we use. And hardware, though not as much.

Hoping for a mid-range headless Mac with a decent graphics chip(8600 or 8800 GT series), myself. Since that wasn't listed I voted for Mac Mini. They need to get the price back down to the G4 price level, and upgrade the graphics chip.

Nvidia has a great embeded graphics option with the 7050PV, even when using shared memory(256MB), it can handle the latest games at low detail settings and a high resolution.

Ultraportable MacBook.

AMEN to that. I've been holding off buying a new subnotebook until Apple releases a Sony Vaio-sized subnotebook. It has been a LONNNNNNNNGGG wait. If Sony can do it, I have (or want to) believe that Jobs could swoop in and "pull an iPhone" in the subnotebook space. Maybe the rumours of NAND shortages causing delay till year end are true?

iMac with matte screen and with no ugly black frame arround the screen.

If possible all in black (or all in aluminium), and a better gpu in it.

If blueray is possible, then stick blue ray in it.

Make it with desktop parts (and not notebook parts) as they are cheaper and faster.

I don´t care if the iMac is 1 inch or 2 inch smaller.. it really doesn´t matter that much.

I know that isn´t going to happen in the near future, but I know a lot of people who think and want the same as I want.

Interesting, same # of people voted for Mac Mini updates as Mac Pros , does that say anything about the Apple faithful at all? Since the Mac Mini is rumored to be EOL anytime. FWIW, I wouldn't mind having the lowest priced Penryn on a SR updated Mac Mini, more powerful multimedia center, what with Samsung shipping a 5.4k rpm 320GB drive now, would be just cool. Mac Mini, a product before it's time?

Other than that, since I didn't notice this poll until after it was closed, I think this thread and all of them associated with polls should also be closed.

perhaps there is such a want for a "newer" new imac because of the touch abilities of the iphone and itouch. the glass in the imac maybe used for a touch function upon update. the glass screen on the imac to me is way too reflective, but a tv screen also uses/used glass. Though having used crt moniters in a light intense architectural office contributed to my now needing glasses ::)

for me i vote for a new MBP with a NEW KEYBOARD. it seems most likley because of the absence of the apple remote redisgn. Plus i like the new keyboard better than the current MBP(powerbook) keyboard. ;)

I am hoping for a Mac Tower. I don't ask for much. I'd be completely satisfied with a $599 tower with the following specs:

1.8GHz Core 2 Duo
1GB DDR667 RAM
160GB Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 7300GT Graphics

I don't care about how freakin' small the damn thing is, I just want a nice tower!

double ditto to you, ;) I've been waiting since the beginning of this year to get my first apple computer. And I think the new macbooks will be apple's highlight of this year, as well as mine, and the greatest investment of my life, considering i'm only fifteen, haha.

My God, you left out the most important choice.

A MacBook Pro ultraportable! Three pounds, low energy CPU, Solid State HDD, a Firewire800 port, 13" wide screen, much better battery in conjunction with lower energy components, giving a battery usage time of 6 plus hours. No internal DVD.

I'm going to MacWorld in San Francisco in January, to buy one.

I've only been to 1 other MacWorld, there I bought the new MacBook Pro, in 2006.

So I'm looking to increase my string of predictions to 2/2.

Yea!
