I just bought a new 500gb HDD for my Mac Pro for storage purposes
My current OS HDD is a 500gb seagate which is REALLY loud.

I am wanting to clone my OS drive onto the new quieter drive and then use the old loud seagate for storage.
is there a way to do this?

will the OS still run properly once cloned onto a new drive?
thanks

I have a similar question actually. But my powermac has died. So can I take the HD out and put it in an enclosure, then make an exact clone of it onto another external HD hooked up to my macbook?

As mentioned, Carbon Copy, SuperDuper and even plain old Disk Utility will all make bootable clones. CC and SD will allow you greater control to make schedules and select files for future backups.
