Transfer Data from backup to computer HDD

I just got my computer back from an apple repair and they erased my hard drive. I've got an USB external drive with all my backup data. how do i transfer everything from the backup to my computers HDD. I tried migration assistent but i need a firewire HDD to do that.

Please Help:apple:
 
It depends how you did your backups... I'd just manually drag sections from the backup into the new account on your Mac. In other words, I'd drag the contents of the Home folder on the backup (including the Preferences folder, the Pictures, Music, Movies, Documents and Desktop folders) to the equivalent locations on the new account. 🙂
