Hey, i was wondering if anybody here has played Lord of the Rings Online on their new sr-mbp's. My brother has an account on his PC so i decided to install it on my mbp under bootcamp xp, to see and compare to his PC.

So the other night i was playing it a bit, just running around in one of the newbie areas, and the game started to lag a bit, it could have been network lag, but at the same time, since i've heard of a lot of people complaining about high temps on their sr-mbp's, i got a little nervous, that maybe my system was becoming unstable. So i installed a temp monitoring software under windows called Speedfan, and it showed only the temps of my 2 cores, like this

Core 1 - 52c
Core 2 - 53c

And each of the cores were at about 52c, so if i add them up its 104 - 105c!! I mean, that seems a bit hot to me, and i wasnt sure whether or not the software is incorrect or not. Either way, its making me really parinoid about actually playing games on my new sr-mbp in fear of melting the cpu...

So does anybody else play this game? If so, can you play for long periods of time without the computer becoming unstable?

Really? The only reason i even added the temps were because when i'm in os x and look at istat, it would show around 80c for just world of warcraft, if i'm playing a game like lotr, it should be at least at 80c in my opinion, which means that if i see 52 or so, it just seems to low for running any game, really. At least as far as mine goes. I just figured, showing around 52c per core was much too low, and figured they both have seperate temps..

When playing did you check to see what your processor usage was? It's more then likely that LOTR: Online is only single threaded while WoW is multi-threaded.

No the software Speedfan didnt seem to show anything but the temps, no cpu usage or even fan speeds for the mpb under xp. I guess it just doesnt recognize most of the hardware in the macs.

A Task Manager or Process Explorer (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.mspx) is fine too.

Ahh, maybe i just didnt look hard enough in speedfan.
Well, either way i will check it out once i get home from work tonight.

Can i ask you though, if i was playing, well, any game really, if my cpu did manage to get too hot, does it take precautions and shut itself down before damage is caused? I just dont want to have to be watching out every 10 min to make sure its cool enough.

Yeah but the fans kick in pretty much 5 mins after i launch any game, really.

Is it recomended to use boot camp to run lotro on a mac os x 10.5.5?

iv heard the max temp core it could take was around 132 to i wouldnt worry + the fans will go to maximum speed before that happens anyway.

well you meet over the requirements and the core wont be a problem so yah. its recommended. :- )
