We're talking about the Eifel Tower, and THAT would be funny. The french (note the lowercase) would have to ask us to help them rebuilt it.

And if the Statue of Liberty (a gift from the French - note the uppercase) were damaged your reaction would be what?
I don't get this irrational dislike for the French, and threads that have gone that route have been quickly closed.

If you can only think to insult them based on their unwillingness to conform.... Don't... It's not necessary.

Why would they need our help re-building a structure that was originally built by them?
And its a small fire, oh well.
BTW, I wouldn't pick a fight with a mod (exp: Rower) :p

Irrational? There are many valid reasons to dislike the french. In any case, if the Statue of Liberty were on fire of course I would be saddened. We are not talking about the Statue of Liberty (and we all know it's a gift from the french), we're talking about the Eiffel Tower.
Do you care about strangers on the street as much as you do about your very own family? Thought so.

Wah, me want bottle, me want bottle...geez, lighten up, the French have always been the joke of the world before this whole WMD conspiracy thing (and visa versa) and it's a stinkin radio tower, not some true French monument.
Besides, wasn't there a time when it was debated to be torn down in the 50's or so, when that con man sold the scrap iron twice? Another useless Discovery fact. Anyhoo, good to see no one got hurt.

Das,
Link (http://www.tour-eiffel.fr/teiffel/uk/documentation/chiffres/page/identite.html)
Date of birth: March 31, 1889
Built for the Universal Exhibition in celebration of the French Revolution.

Guglielmo Marconi, an Italian inventor, proved the feasibility of radio communication. He sent and received his first radio signal in Italy in 1895. By 1899 he flashed the first wireless signal across the English Channel and two years later received the letter "S", telegraphed from England to Newfoundland. This was the first successful transatlantic radiotelegraph message in 1902.
So much for your radio tower idea. The Eiffel Tower is one of the most famous monuments in the world.
If you want to discuss any country being a "joke of the world" do so in the political forum - I'm sure you'll find some interesting opinions on other countries considered to be jokes right now.

Sorry, my idea of a monument would be something like l'arc de triumph, not some landmark, but then again I'm not in charge of the National Monument Committee.
As for jokes about the French belonging in the politics section, how would it be political? Yeesh, the French/American rivalry is nothing new and existed long before Jacque Iraq.

I thought the guy sold it for scrap more than twice. Anyway, glad to see it was a minor fire. No big deal.
