I find them really good for sound quality.
Beats will sound good compared to iPod ear buds or Skullcandy. Beats compared to other headphones made by Sennhesier, Klipsch, Sony, etc. will not.

Hey,
Wondering if anyone can tell what headphones Chris Powell is wearing in this video. I think I've seen them before but can't put my finger on it.

Those are earbuds. Kinda impossible to tell what they are because they're in his ear rather than over them.

Any input on Shure over/on ear headphones?
I'm looking for a good headset that is not super expensive, but also sounds great (who isn't though...)

I'm looking at these models:
Shure SRH440
Shure SRH240
Klipsch Image ONE Premium

I had some UrbanEars Plattans that were OK, but they hurt my ears after 20-30 minutes or so

I've had these beauties for about 18 months now. Still great sounding, really comfortable and light (for the bulk, that is).Image (http://i.testfreaks.com/images/products/600x400/231/sennheiser-hd-435.3872743.jpg)

I really don't like the red accents, but otherwise, they are great.

And just 2 weeks after posting this, the cable broke where it goes into the cans. I've got a pair of HD448 to replace them, at least while I get a place to get another cable. The only thing I don't like about them is the closed design.

The buds have a unique piece on the outside that I thought may be familiar to someone more knowledgable than myself. Tough to tell, sure, but impossible, I don't think so.

Thanks for looking and trying at least. I appreciate it.

The new line of Shure headphones are VERY good! Nextdoor to excellent! Was going to get me the SRH440's but went for the SRH240's instead....a decision I regret today....smh. The SRH240's sound great but the cord is RIDICULOUSLY TOO SHORT! Not only is it too short but it's also very THIN and delicate....night and day to it's $99 cousin the SRH440's which have a very durable Left-Side single only cord and is of a good length. Plan on getting the SRH440's still though....
I also use the Sennheiser HD280 Pro's....excellent cans at around $99 at most places...industry standard cans they are.
Hope my comments were helpful....:apple:

I was wondering what everybody's thoughts were for a high end pair of in-ear headphones. I'm really looking for something that cancels noise, comfortable, gym worthy.

Are the custom audiophile types worth the money?

People seem to talk alot about UE, Etymotic, Shure. Others here and there. I just want to make sure if I dump the money they'll last and live up to the price. I've read reviews that would disagree with some of the options out there.

Personal thoughts?

My 2c is that if you're buying for gym use, you want something good but not something too expensive:

1. You might damage them or lose them.

2. You're probably more focused on reps, heart rate, calories than intently listening to music in a gym situation.

I use the Apple in-ear phones ($80) quite a bit (subway, working out, airplane terminals) even though my high end rig costs more than a laptop.

Got some Denon D2000s in today:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c104/twisted_metal_2/P1060354.jpg

I will say that the Little Dot seems to drive them better than it does my Beyers.

Immediately off the bat I noticed that they sounded closed in compared to the Beyers and lacked that airy sound, but that didn't take away from their soundstage, instrument separation and imaging. It's immaculate compared to any closed can I've heard. The pads are bar-none the best pads I've come across as well.

I'm not sure what impedence they are, but don't they drain your iPhone battery quickly?

I ask because my HD pros (see pic in earlier posting) have an impedence pf 64 ohms, and I can't use them with my phone or my iPad....Got a cheaper pair (16 ohms) for that :)

TMRaven
Aug 6, 2011, 11:30 AM
I could even drive a 600ohm impedance Beyer pretty decently out of an iPod. Higher the impedance, the lower the amount of wattage required to drive, so easier on the iPod, but a considerable more amount of voltage required for a gain that will actually get it to high volume levels.

Don't bother telling me they suck because I like them. They're bassy and don't cost the earth. Most of my music is between 256 and 320 kbps so more expensive ones would be a waste anyway. Also, they look cool.

well, last night my girlfriend accidentally stepped (snap!) on my pair of the infamously crap Sony MDR-V150. i have stretched ears and need a cheap pair of supra-aurals for when i'm wearing my plugs (out and about, on the bus, etc). just picked up the Sony MDR-ZX100 for $25 on sale from $35.

http://cultureshoq.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/mdr-zx100.png

they're pretty much the same, only they don't have the annoying super long cable the V150s do. kinda wish the shop had the white ones though. those look pretty sick for a pair of cheap cans.

also, if you own either the MDR-V150 or MDR-ZX100, gently take off the ear pads and turn them inside out. leather! put them back on and they will look and feel a bit better. gotta make the best of a bad situation. :)

my good headphones are AKG K240 MKIIs, which i am totally in love with.

Got a pair of these last year, at The Gadget Show live. Jason Bradbury, personally recommended them to me when I was at the stand testing them. Spent a few minutes chatting with him.

Wireless? Yes.
Lightweight? Yes.
Perfect for everyday use? Yes.
Comfortable? Depends if you've got small ears.

Beats by Dre seem to be very popular! I bough Solo HDs and had to return them and bought Bose AE2. Much more comfortable for me. My sonic earbuds broke so I went to target and bought these new SkullCandy Jibs for running. They look very similar to the Ink'd version but they are $5 cheaper. They sound exactly the same in my opinion. What really made me purchase it, was the fact that it matched my blue iPod nano

The amount of Beats and Bose headphones in this thread is extremely disappointing :(

http://intellexual.net/bose.html

The main reason why I purchased the Beats Pro at the Japanese Apple Store is because I could not find a headphone that is all made of solid aluminum, all the headphones i've seen on the market are made of cheap plastic and I could not find brands such as Sennheiser, Grado, AKG ...ect at a local BestBuy or Apple Store from where I live. And ordering online is going to cost me more because of the shipping cost.

Imagine how much yen is going to cost me in euros ?

I think the main reason why Sennheiser, Grado, AKG cost more is only because they have this "made in germany" "made in austria" "made in france" in them making us thinking "made in europe therefore they must be good quality" placebo effect logic.

I have been using expensive plastic devices in the past and they all break in 2 so I quit purchasing plastic devices and from now on I only purchase aluminum ones that matches my Mac Pro, MacBook Pro, iPad, iPhone (aluminum).

The Beats Pro is the best isolation of the headphones tested. I was VERY surprised to find the Beat's Pro's to have the best sound of the bunch as well (To MY ear). They are very bass heavy though and I can see some people not liking that amount of bass.

They also look good:

I don't want to sound like a jerk, but I'd like to see you head over here http://www.head-fi.org/ and here http://www.hydrogenaudio.org/forums/ and tell them that Sennheiser, etc. don't really sound better and that the country of origin has a placebo effect, making people think they sound better.

As I've said before in other discussions on this forum, not all plastic is created equal. I've been using a pair of Audio Technica ATH-A500s for just shy of 7 years now. They're still going as good as the day they arrived, despite the fact that the pleather has worn off. No cracks, no issues. They sound better than every single Beats or Bose headphone I have heard, including those outrageous $300 Beats on display at Best Buy. I've used them at least daily for the last 7 years. They've been tossed in my backpack, in cars. They've outlived iPods and iPhones, Macs. Just because you had bad experience with a bad plastic product doesn't mean all plastic products are that way. I've been looking to upgrade them but the only way to truly "beat" them is to spend hundreds over what they cost originally.

The fact that you live in Japan or are in Japan means that you have access to Audio Technica's entire line of headphones without having to import them and at a much lower price than the rest of the world pays. Which means you have every reason to avoid Beats or Bose. For the cost of those Beats, you could have gotten a set of A900s or AD900s or even one of the sets of headphones made from WOOD and still had money left over, and you'd have significantly better sound quality. Significantly is an understatement. Even the Grado SR60s I have sound better than any of the Beats line.

I guarantee you that any set of Sennheiser, Grado, AKG, Audio Technica, etc. will not only sound many times better than any Beats or Bose headphone, but any of those brands will outlast any model of Beats or Bose. I guarantee that.

And honestly, who cares about how headphones look? Sound quality is a lot more important than being stylish. I want my music, movies, games, whatever to sound the best possible. I don't care if the cup on my headphones is bigger than my iPhone and the cloth cable stands out and doesn't look "stylish". All I care about is that I'm getting good sound.

I'm gonna be honest, but I like the MDR - V150 much better. I've had them since the first generation iPod Nano (2005?) and thought I should try something new. Got the 201s, but the Sony is much better. I honestly tried liking the 201s, but it's simply not as good. They are more comfortable though - I'll give it that.

The next headphones I want to buy are the Bose AE2 - mainly for comfort. If anyone knows of any headphones that are as comfortable as the AE2, I'd consider it. They also felt very solid.

Before I purchased the Beats Pro, I was interested to get the AKG K701 because i've read reviews that they are the best for techno music but unfortunately i can't find then at any retail store, nor at bestbuy, not even the mini headphone stores on the big city of Tokyo. So I went with the Beats Pro because I see allot of peoples wearing the white Beats Studios in public.

Why is it so hard to find those kinds of headphones at a local bestbuy or apple store? All i see here are Sony's, Panasonic's, Beats, and some Pioneers.

If Sennheiser, Grado, AKG are so good then why they don't sell them at the big stores ?

Maybe because some manufacturers prefer to focus on QUALITY rather than on quantity. Those brands produce some of the most professional audio products out there, and the target of their products are audiophiles and professionals. That is people really interested in sound quality. these people simply know that manufacturers like Grado, AKG, etc. are the best in terms of high quality (no arguing about that) and they simply go ahead and buy their products.
A Pair of Grado HeadPhones would cost you over 1000$, because it is a high-quality product and it is reserved to a niche public, such as professionals working with sound and audiophiles. That's why you'll never seen a pair of Grados at the big stores: Because they simply don't care of everyone getting their products, since they're targeted to a restricted and professional public.
There are other companies instead, that prefer focusing on mass-targeted products rather than on quality, and then they sell their overpriced products everywhere.
But hey, if you're happy with your Beats because of how they look what's the matter? Nobody here is trying to sell you a pair of Professional Headphones.

How about a quick review?

I'm looking for a *comfortable* pair of in-ear earphones. I've gone through my fair share of earphones and I just can't find the right pair for me. I'm now tempted to either get the Bose In-Ears or this C5 model, mainly due to comfort factors.

Anyone have any suggestions for an on-ear set that has an inline mic? I was looking at the Klipsch Image One or the B&W P5s...Pretty big price difference though. I just love the design of the P5s.

I currently have Shure SRH750DJs, and while they sound great, they are pretty big and they aren't the most comfortable ones for wearing for a long time.

I'm normally an IEM guy (my main IEM is the Westone UM3X), but I like full-size cans too. So I wanted something comfortable and with great sound. Should I stay with IEMs if I want to keep an inline mic?

The bass is nice and tight, but sometimes takeover the Mids. Mids need a bit of time to open up. Atm its kinda recessed due to the bass. Highs have a faint harshness to it. The soundstage is excellent for a pair of earphones though.

They have been burned in for 13 hours so far.

Does anyone have any experience with these? Lookin to by my first set of headphones for my iPhone. Whichever I get have to have a mic on them so when the phone rings, I am not constantly taking the headphones out.

no good! they sound ok but for $100 or more you can buy the cheaper skull candy's and get a better sound. i own both the noise canceling beats over the ear ones and they are amazing. but my buddy bought these and we hated them. also the beats on the ear (non noise canceling) are awesome too. for earbuds they are no good, like i said i have skull candy's and they sounded way better than those. have never tried the in ear bose ones however but thatd personal preference.

I've got the x10i's and the sound is exceptional - only the bass is slightly lacking. I'm not one for overpowering bass (*cough*Beats*cough*) but I think the x10i's could do with a little more. Certainly sound better when using my cMoyBB headphone amp.

As a birthday present I bought myself the pioneer hdj2000 headphone.
And I gotta admit, these are just.. phenomenal.

First of all the build quality.. A liga of magnisium makes this one of the strongest headphones out nowadays.
And most important, the sound quality. Cristal clear at every sound level. Low, mids and highs are all just perfect. Not to much bass like the hdj1000.

I just love him. Never ever want trade that one again.

Slightly off topic guys but do many people use headphone stands? If so any recommendation?

Have a set of black Beats solo's so a nice gloss black stand would be nice? Also have a set of in-ear beats but there mainly on the go so no real issue!

Hope someone can help! Some lush headphones here will get a picture of mine this week.

If Sennheiser, Grado, AKG are so good then why they don't sell them at the big stores ?

Where's that "Can't tell if serious or trolling" picture at?

In all seriousness, theres a couple of reasons you won't find high end headphones at big stores.

The most important reason is that big stores don't focus on high end products. They focus on profitability and moving as much product as possible. Best Buy is a perfect example of this. They always focus on brand names and pushing those brands and trends more than anything else. Ever see their commercials? "We have the latest products from the brands you know!" or "We have the latest brands". Its never "we have the best products". It's always "we have the best brands".

Bose and Monster/Beats are mass market products. How else would you be able to sell a $300 headphone to a regular person if not for saying "it's made by Dr. Dre!"? No average person is going to spend that much on headphones unless its a stylish status symbol of some sorts. And Bose spends more money on marketing than anything else. Well, that and suing people who give them negative reviews. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Reports#Bose And setting up Bose demo units in stores far away from competing products so they can't be compared side by side. Again: http://intellexual.net/bose.html

Grado products are specifically made for high end consumers. They're not made for someone who wants to look cool. They're made to bring out the best sound signature in certain types of music. Same for Sennheiser's non-Best Buy products. Their high end products are made for a niche market. They're not made for looks. They're made for sound. Same can be said for Audio Technica. Most of their high end headphones are ugly as sin. But the sound quality is fantastic.

Just the other day I was in Best Buy. That particular one is one of the few I've seen with those $300 Beats with the cord hanging loose so you can test on your own equipment. I plugged in my iPhone 4 and listened to one of my favorite songs, Fear Factory's "Fear Campaign". Theres a few spots in that song where you have a double bass drum roll and heavy and fast guitar riffs. My nearly 7 year old Audio Technica ATH-A500s handle those parts beautifully. No distortion. The double bass drum rolls are deep, full of impact.. in fact, those double bass drum rolls remind me of a fast subwoofer firing. And you can hear ALL of the detail in the guitars. However, on those $300 Beats, the song turned into muddy distortion. Those crap Beats couldn't handle it at all and failed big time. Even my many years old original Grado SR60s handle the song better than those Beats did.

Long story short: Best Buy won't sell truly high end headphones because they don't have brand recognition or style, and as a result, they won't be able to push as many and make as much money. No average person is going to buy a pair of Grados that look like they're out of the 60s or a big ugly pair of Audio Technicas when theres a "Beats by Dr. Dre" that puts form before function right next to it, or Bose which spends more money on advertising than anything else.

Big wall of text

Yup thats how it is, I travel a lot and I have seen pretty much that combination in big retail chains and stores around the world. However recently I have seen Sennheiser appearing to bigger ones in europe and some UE (Logitech), but they only sell products like CX300 sadly.

I have found all my headphones in stores what specialize to audio more or less.

TMRaven
Aug 31, 2011, 06:45 AM
I don't think the average consumer will want an open backed AKG701, hahaha. As said above, retail stores stock what they think will sell, not what they think is the best product. AKG is legendary-- basically one of the mothers of the headphone. Other historic companies are Koss, Beyerdynamic and Sennheiser. You'll likely only find them in audio specialist stores.

Your average consume will probably take one try at the AKG and say 'what the hell, it doesn't isolate at all and there's absolutely no bass quantity to it!' And turn them down immediately. Not too good a business for the say-- apple store-- trying to sell them.

As a side note, for anyone looking for a more hi-fi version of the Beats, look into Ultrasone-- particularly the hf580. It's pretty much the same sound signature with just as much raw bass impact and quantity, but it doesn't distort and turn to mud with fast songs, as well as having a better build quality.

So my Sennheiser HD205s have served me well, but the cable length, the jack length and the clampage on my poor ears has come to make me resent them a little.

They damaged the jack connector on my old iPod 5G and iPod Shuffle, the cable must be at least 2 metres long and after 30 minutes of wearing them, my ears start to hurt.

So, now is the time for some new cans.

I want something that sounds good without volume being put at max (rock, hip hop, r&b, also podcasts, TV Shows and Movies), doesn't pinch my ears much (Maybe I just have a big head), has a short enough cable that I don't have to spool up a whole load of cable, has either a right angle jack or a jack short enough not to lever my jack connector loose whilst my phone is in my pocket, and maybe an inline mic would be kinda useful.

Let us know how they are please as I'm looking out for some on ear phones.

So far so good on the AKG Q460. They play well through the iPhone with good, tight bass. Like all headphones, they're capable of more than what they'll do through just a portable device. They punch really hard when connected to the headphone jack on my desktop speakers. But they're not anemic connected directly to the iPhone by any stretch.* I have a pair of Grado SR60s that I don't use any more because I don't find them comfortable. These are easily in the same class. Different for sure, but in the same class. Very clear, good frequency response, and so far, comfortable. I think they are not as "bright" as the Grados. That might be a good thing or a bad thing depending on your tastes. They don't sound "dark" to me. I have broad tastes in music from blues and jazz to 80s rock to pop/rock.

*As an example from some recent pop music, I have the iTunes "deluxe" version of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream that has some of the club-like remixes on it and the bass hits pretty hard. I also have Bela Fleck's Cosmic Hippo (told you my tastes are eclectic) and the bass is deep and stays clean.

OK, I'm sorry, still no picture of headphones, but I went to the Roosevelt Field Apple Store on Long Island today (went to Best Buy near Columbus Circle last week) and from their headphone selection, I think I really like the Klipsch and the Aviators.

Out of two stores I've been to, both have had a pair of Beats where one of the drivers (is that what you call them?) is completely dead, so I cannot consider those at all, I just know they are most likely to break - they also make a lot of noise for everyone else. I hate hearing the beat of other people's music, so I always try to factor this in.

I found a marked difference in sound quality between my Stupid Epic 4G and Apple Store's iPod Touches, iPhones and Shuffles, which is interesting. All of the Apple devices sounded a lot better.

So on pay day, I think I may get the Aviators, as they look better, IMO, they sound just a little better than the Klipsch and have a better cable. They also fold, which is important to me for when I get to work if I have to work on site with a client.

Finally gave up on earphones after breaking the cables on 3 pairs within a month. Decided to buy some fairly inexpensive Bluetooth headphones. Finally gave up on earphones after breaking the cables on 3 pairs within a month. Decided to buy some fairly inexpensive Bluetooth headphones. Do those have controls on them?

I just bought these Motorola S305s (which do have controls) last week....they're even more inexpensive.;)

So far I'm happy with them, but I've only used them a couple of times.

EDIT: I returned them. Even at full blast, I could still hear background noise. And the bass was non-existent.

Grado 325is (http://gradolabs.com/page_headphones.php?item=71ea2b53c254a6a29f7da233d0238ccd). Currently have a little dot DAC_1 on order as my emu 0404 usb is not compatible with OS X Lion. Plan on getting a mapletree ear+ hd (http://hollowstate.netfirms.com/) headphone amp to go with the DAC, since it has great synergy with Grado headphones.

I posted this question in the iPhone Accessories forum, but I thought I'd post it here as well for more exposure:

I currently own and use the Ultimate Ears MetroFi 220vi earphones and I'm thinking of buying the highly-touted Klipsch S4i earphones.

Does anyone have experience with both of these earphone models? Is there a point for me to get the Klipsch S4is? Is there a noticeable sound quality difference between the two sets?

Has anyone tried out the Soul Ludacris range of headphones yet, I am looking to replace my Beats Solo, and was considering a set of Beats Studios until I came across the Soul Electronics Range endorsed by Ludacris. I am looking at the 150s on ear, but slightly bigger than the Solos. I tried out the SL300s today in FYE, but to be honest, $299 is a bit more than I wanted to spend. Trying to find a store in the central Orlando area, who have the SL150s in stock that I can try on before deciding. The apple store don't appear to have them, although they are on the apple website. The stock that FYE had were sealed and the staff weren't prepared to open a set of SL150s for me to try, they only had the SL300 out of the box.

Just wanting to know if anyone had tried the SL150s yet and what do they think ?

Not sure about those yet. I did hear from many that the Sol Republic Tracks headphones sold at Best Buy for $99 are far better than the Solo HD.

I've got Grado 225's with the extra large Grado pads. These are fantastic headphones, the best ones I have, and by a good margin. A supreme pleasure to listen to, when driven correctly with a good amp and/or DAC.

I've also got the Shure 850's, they are also very good (not the same league as the Grado though). I use these more for music production, but they sound very good for listening too. Great passive noise isolation.

I've got the Beats studio as well. Overpriced (I got a good deal on mine), noise cancelling is ok, build quality is poor, but the sound is still pretty good. Not as good as my Shure's or Grado's, but they do sound good. Great for walking around noisy towns... They don't sound nearly as bad as most audiophiles describe... I find people sometimes get biased against Monster...

I've also got the Monster Turbine Pro's (gold edition), these are EXCELLENT earbuds. I love them. Great sound, and great passive noise isolation.

And finally I've got some crappy skullcandy earbuds (but these are my "beaters", the ones I scrunch up and throw in my bag), and some decent JVC headphones too...

Well, I went ahead and ordered a set of Klipsch s4i's last night when the direct-from-Amazon price dropped below $60. There was a bit of a price war going on between a third party seller and Amazon which drove the price down. It's back up above $65 now, and they're usually priced at around $79 on Amazon (retail $99).

Hopefully they're an upgrade from the UE 220vi's that I currently use.

I just bought them and I'm very pleased. I had originally tried the beats tour for a while but I hated them. I could never get them to stay in my ears and I didn't even think the sound quality was all that great. These on the other hand are outstanding. The sound on these is great and they fit in my ears perfect. The silicone tips are oval shaped as opposed to rounded and I think that helps a lot.

You are most likely going to want a DAC and/or Amp to drive them. I had my DT770/80's for a couple years and loved them. But I found that they definitely required something to drive them other than a laptop sound card. I drove mine with a Zaholu 1.3 DAC and a Little Dot II amp and they sounded amazing with that combo.

I found a pair on display at the local Apple store and then found out that if you push the outside of the ear cup part, it turns the driver back on. I can't remember which model Beats this one was but I thought it odd at first but it would probably make it easier to listen to others talking to you without reaching for the mute or pause button...

I did wake up really late today, so technically I was exaggerating. I'm going on 4 hours now, I'm using a portable amp with my iPod Classic so I haven't had to take them off yet since I've just been carrying my iPod with me while I'm moving around. I have a big, odd shaped head and I was worried about comfort. I know it's different for everyone, but to my surprise these particular headphones I find extremely comfortable.

I have nothing but good things to say about this amp! You tell them what headphones you are pairing them with and they change out resistors and capacitors to better match the headphones. The amp is then tested and they send you a frequency chart for it! They definitely provide ample sound for the headphones :)

Shure E4c, got back in 2007 - cables around ears have frayed, soldered them back together which helped for 6 months, one driver cuts out if cable repositions. Fantastic neutral headphones, could use a little more bass for my style of music.

Sennheiser HD-25-1 II Adidas - Just got these to replace my older HD-25's where the right driver blew from loud usage and likely dust from my Africa travels. Fantastic headphones, you see them in broadcast sports all the time, as well as on DJ's ears of course. Love the new styling, keep my old HD-25's for parts as everything is replaceable (however not purchasable).

I run my headphones through a presonus firebox. Sound is immensely better than built in headphone jack.

I've got some HD555s, which I really do enjoy. I would like a bit more bass, but for less than $100, they sound great. I also don't really need anything better than that, since I'm not nearly enough of an audiophile to appreciate the difference.

I highly recommend the Shure 440's (http://www.amazon.com/Shure-SRH440-Professional-Studio-Headphones/dp/B002DP1FTU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1294789156&sr=8-1). I own a pair, and it's my favorite out of about 10 headsets, even though it was a few hundred dollars cheaper than my most expensive pair.

They don't require an amp with an iPod or Zune, and the sound is very clear without a lot of artificial bass. If you've got the means, test them out in store to make sure they feel comfortable to you. I prefer over the ears when comfort is a concern. Good luck! :)

+1,,, these are what I'm using right now to hear some Alison Krause, Enigma, Allman Brothers, and Rush from my iPhone… excellent, crisp, vibrant sounds. Highly recommended.

I haven't actually used a headphone amplifier before, So I will say no for now because it's out of my experience. But yes these headphones do work well without one.

They don't have a microphone for the iPhone, They are just stereo headphones with nice bass response.

Best Buy, $40.00 :)

I got them for traveling, because my Sennheiser HD280 Pros are around $100.00 and I didn't want to take them traveling for two reasons.

1) They are a bit more expensive, so if they break its more of a loss. While as $40.00 is easier to replace.
2) I really wanted headphones with microfiber ear pieces, because the "fake leather" ear pieces aren't comfortable for me to wear after a long period of time. (They get too hot)

Hey Guys, im looking for some good headphones around the $200 range. (No Beats By Dre ;) Some like them, i do not. I currently have some mildly cheep Sennheiser headphones. Cost me about £50 and i have generally been very pleased with them.I have recently gotten into listening to Music much more and would like some good headphones to take travelling with me and to use at home. I am going to America next week and would buy the headphones there. Looking at the $150 - $250 range. I am no professional, just appreciate good Audio. I listen mostly to Jazz, Country, Rock and Folk. Not the usual genres for a 17 year old haha. I like super clear vocals, thats the one thing which i appreciate the most. I am not overly bothered by Bass but of course it must be somewhat present.

So far i have looked at some Sennheiser's in that price range, Grado's and also some headphones from AKG. I specifically like the look of the AKG K702's which are currently $250 from Amazon. They used to retail for $400.

If someone could recommend me some headphones suited to me then that would be awesome. I would appreciate any contribution. I know you guys are clued up in the Audio sector and hopefully i can find some headphones which will enrich my passion for listening to music.

Also i guess i would need an Amp. Would the FiiO E7 be okay? The source of the music would be my iPhone. My budget for Headphones and Amp would be $250 - $300.

Many thanks, George.

So i would not be able to Run the BeyerDynamic's off of my iPhone directly to start with? Would an amp like the FiiO E7 be able to drive them to a reasonable standard? The source would be my iPhone or when i am at home my iMac. I certainly don't want to spend $600 on an Amp and i would not be able to take an amp like that to school with me on occasions haha. Im just looking for some Headphones for casual usage, but of course i want them sound as good as you can get for the price point without having to buy other pieces of equipment. Im not talking of Audio at a "pro" level.

----------

Put simply, I am looking for the best pair of headphones for around $250-300 Max that will run off my iMac and iPhone. I don't mind if i need to get an Amp such as the FiiO E7 but i don't want to be buying professional grade audio Amps.
