How do you upload clips from an already created DVD to IMovie ?

Hi, I have uploaded my video from the camera to my DVD recorder and burned them to a DVD. Now I want to use these videos in my Imovie app. ... how do I upload them since as soon as I put a DVD in to my MAC drive it starts playing in the MAC's DVD player.

Mac the Ripper -> ffmpegX (convert to DV format) -> iMovie.
