5 second delay before turn on

when i power up my Macbook, it does not display the grey boot up screen for 5-7 seconds. I have never had this problem before. After this everything works as normal, but for some reason the grey screen with the apple logo and spinning wheel, and startup sound, does not load for 5-7 seconds. anyone had this problem? thanks

Check if the correct system on the correct disk is sat in the Startup Disk pref pane in System preferences...

5-7 seconds from what? Pushing the Power button? My Powerbook takes about 1 second or so to give the BONG, and another 5-7 seconds after the Gong for the Grey screen to appear. It's always been this way.

no its 5-7 seconds for the gong (as in press the power button, wait 5 seconds, then the gong and grey screen), and i checked the startup disk - looks fine
