stability of 750gb hard drives

Hi All,

I've read that the new 750 Seagates use new technology for their HD storage. Are they as stable and reliable as older hard drives (keeping in mind that all models fail more than we want)?

NEW Seagates? 750 GB is NEW? Try the single terabyte drives from Hitachi (and soon Seagate and Samsung). And I think you mean perpendicular recording as the new technology. I've not heard of any increase in complications from perp, and there isn't too much reason to worry, anyway. Just don't write to your hard drive while offroading in a valley of magnetic rock. That might cause some problems... 😛

Probably not. The magnets in hds are so powerful and close to the platters that any interference from magnetic rock would be negligible, especially since the power of a magnet drops off with the square of distance.

(although I realize you were kidding.)
