Here's a quick mockup I made. So does anyone think Apple would make something like this? I know there's been a lot of talk of an ultra-portable laptop...

Love the mockup, and would love the idea in general..except...
I have a hard enough time pressing links accurately..the dock and the icons there look waaaaaaaaaaay too small :p

ultra-portable laptop does not equal phone. the iphone stands at the upper end of what a consumer is willing to pay for a cell phone. so if there's to be an iphone "pro," the current model would be it. a base iphone or an iphone nano would be released at a cheaper price point to complement the lineup.

Imagine someone walking down the street holding one of those up to their head talking away lol.

If this should become a reality then it shouldn't be part of the iPhone Family, it should be called something like MacBook mini or touchbook, you know...
The design would be very different and more similar to the MacBook or MacBook Pro...

Ya I thought of that. I even thought of taking the speaker out. I think something like this would be more of a laptop than a phone. The only advantage of it having cellphone capabilities would be to allow for Internet connectivity everywhere.

We finally arrived. Looks like one of those data tablets they use in Star Trek: Next Generation. ;)

I can easily imagine that mounted to my dash with GPS directions with iPhone capabilities, with voice dial, with 3g and Edge and WiFi and the White Stripes and the phone thru my truck's stereo speakers. Sign me up!

Why not. These served us well in the 80s.

That's exactly what I want for my next 'laptop'. But without the home button/black bars. And I'd like it a bit larger.

Make it sans phone, a little more screen size, and able to run final cut, and I'd buy one

Honestly after using my iPhone I'd rather have something calculator sized that had more desktop abilities, apps, and was pretty much exclusively Bluetooth for calls. Large landscape iPhone keyboard with all characters, home button, full resolution of about 350 x 550

It would not be a phone. No one would buy it if it was a phone. However, they could do something like that as a macbook nano. The problem would be the price. Also they would probably get rid of the black bars as its just a waste of space.

Personally I like an iPhone Pro that could fit in my briefcase, a la 80s phones. Although the "boombox" phones were nice... loved dialing with my fist :D

Not gonna happen but I love your mockup.
Quick! Someone make a non-working prototype and take some elevator photos!

Well i guess it would work if it was something you could put in your briefcase then just have a bluetooth control unit/head set.

I like the iTablet name. I think this would be great competitor to Microsoft Tablet PC.
Why is everyone saying to exclude the phone? I have notice a lot of Laptops are starting to get built in Phone Network Access. Do these also alow for voice calls or just data? I don't have one so I don't know for sure.

Yeah, giant clunky pro phones for phone professionals who want that little bit extra...
I can remember idiots thinking there was going to be an iPod Pro for music listening professionals back in the day, too....

I think that iPad is better than iTablet. It would be a Tablet PC killer!
