Okay folks so I've managed to download the OS update but my connection appears real slow.

I'm in the UK and I have SKY broadband (16Mbps) and I'm using the netgear wirless router they supplied. Compared to my crappy toshiba laptop my connection seems real sluggish and appears to be disconnected at times.

Any tips or suggestions?

Are you getting good reception? Which OS update are you talking about and did the slowness suddenly start after installing said update? 🙂

The OS update is the 10.4.10 one. I noticed the slow connection straight away - Internet speed tests appear to confirm that my toshiba downloads/uploads faster (almost X3) than the mac 😕

Not really sure what to do?

Okay, do you have an Intel laptop? If so, check this out. 🙂

😱 So I guess I need to wait for a another OS update 🙁

Is there any way to view the signal strength of the wifi conection on my macbook similar to the one I have on my toshiba (very basic: excellent, very strong etc)

The amount of bars on the AirPort icon in your Menu Bar should give you an idea... Rather than wait for an update, running an Archive & Install before updating to 10.4.9 with the combo update may get things back on track. Even though this should retain all your data and settings, make sure everything's backed up beforehand, just in case. 🙂
