I was wondering the exact same thing. If PowerLogix can get their hands on a faster chip, why can't apple?

They can, and have: the IBM 970.
The other issue is that PowerLogix, Sonnet and so on, can introduce a product using a CPU available in much smaller quantities than the minimum that Apple could go with.

This is great for Cube owners. If I had a cube and some money, I think I would get it. :D

Wire.com has an article on the Cube that mentions the Powerlogix card. Would like to have a Cube, but can't see shelling out that kind of cash. Good article though if you are into the Cube.
