Receiving my aol.com mail account in the Mail feature of OSX

I'm typing on my first Mac ever, a white MB that I bought a few hours ago. So far I love it but I'm very new to OSX and Macs, so I'm not sure how to use all the apps.

But my first question involves the Mail feature. When I started the computer up, I activated .Mac for the trial version, and it automatically made my .mac e-mail the default e-mail for Mail. I want my aol.com account to be the default account but I'm not sure how to do it. I tried setting up a new account but couldn't figure out if aol.com is a POP, IMAP, or Exchange and what my incoming mail server is.

Can someone help me?

Someone else may know for definite, but I think you can use either. Your incoming server will be pop.aol.com or imap.aol.com, and your outgoing server will be smtp.aol.com. You have the username and email address already.

Best thing to do is type it all in, see if it works.

go to the aol mail help page and it will tell you how to set it up. You can choose pop or imap. I would go with imap because it leaves your messages on the aol server. That means you can access yoru email through webmail away from your computer--say at work or on vacation.

The process is very easy--just follow the diretions.
