I installed parallels with windows XP about a month ago; thereafter I installed(in windows XP) a lot of programs, but ended up deleting everyone of them, then something shocking occured. Parallels occupied a wooping 10GIG on my mac harddrive. It was only around 1.8Gig when XP was first installed with no additional programs. But I uninstalled and deteted every windows program in the end so there is no reason for parallels to still take up 10Gigs!! Can someone explain this?

You need to select "Run Parallels Compressor..." from the "Actions" menu while Windows is running. It could take a while to finish, but it should recover your disk space.
