6G iPod on Sept. 18 (Prediction)

So no new iPods next Tues. Aug. 7 (they say). The next likely candidate is September 18.

-Back-to-school discount on current iPods (clearing old stock) ends on Sun. Sept. 16.
-Sept. 18 is a Tuesday (frequent Apple release day)

Could be earlier. However, the week before is Tues. 9/11 (maybe a PR no-no, still). Before that and you're overlapping the back-to-school discount by 2 weeks.

Last (5.5G) iPod update was on Tues., Sept. 12 2006. So, we're about in the same ballpark.

Hope we see a touchscreen one, not just a fatter Nano.

September 11 sounds like the most reasonable date then. If memory serves me, they tend to announce the new iPods right before the end of the back to school promotion. But they might have all sorts of plans and marketing ideas to get iPod customers to come into the stores and check out the new iMacs and Leopard.
