I noticed that with Daylight Savings Time rolling around, it looks like Arn will be spending another weekend fixing the server clock one hour.

Gosh, Arn, you never get a break anymore, do you? :)

naw... it'll be ok... spring foward isn't a problem.... since you just skip an hour...

the problem comes in when you move the clock backwards... I have to shut down the forums - otherwise, there will be posts that will have been posted After previous posts... but get a timestamp BEFORE... as you can imagine - it would cause a lot of confusion - as certain replies would appear in the middle of threads

We do not have to deal with day saving time, we have sun light all year long =).

When I went to the states I didn't get the day saving time. Imagine a person who leaved all his light with sun light all year long and with a 30 min difference between "summer" and "winter" dealing with that. If I'm not wrong I guess I still doesn't get it.

What is more strange is that we are too ina an energy problem here and because the population hasn't reduce the consuption by 10% the power company reduce the cycles from 50Hz to 49.99Hz, that means that every bodys clock is getting delayed 2 minutes a day!

I'm assuming you mean difference in the amount of sun light you get each day over the course of a year? The difference between the Summer Solstice and Winter Solstice (which would be opposite us because we're on either side of the equator). I'm thinking it would be more than 30 min, but I could be wrong.

I've been up in Alaska for work, pretty much every month except December. Thats pretty strange, Summer has almost 24 hours of sunlight and Winter gets almost none, the sun popping up over the horizon for a little while, then disappearing again before you know it. I think I'd prefer the tropics.

I'll be nice this time but... what were you doing in your geography class?

Just pleaaaaaaaaaaaase locate Venezuela in a map. We are not talking about Croatia or Cundinamarca. Venezuela is in the north of south america and at the north of the ecuador.

Oh, do I feel like an idiot. Sorry about that. I knew Venezuela was close to the Equator, but I didn't realize its relationship to it. North America - South America, its easy to not think and make the mistake.

Sorry:(

I forgive you:) ,

My host parent, when I was an exchange student, thought that Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil, etc. was one country like the US. The problem with that is that I was living at his house for a year and he came with that coment in the way to the airport just when I was living, to make it worst, he was a primary school teacher!

I understand that lack of information in the US education. I think is because you have about averything at 30 min from your house or just with a phone call, in that case... why whould I (as a US citizen) would feel in the need to know what is out there? In our case is different, when you leave in a country where the services are not that develop, you will look for something better, that way you will feel in the need to learn some other things from another point of view. But geography is a matter of general colture.

Move to central Indiana. In Indianapolis, they don't observe daylight savings time. I think that is so cool. They are the renegade of America's cities.

Could also move here to Arizona -- the entire state (except for the Navajo nation, I think) does not observe daylight savings time.

That bit in Indianapolis had me in a fit a few summers ago. I had just spent a week in Chicago and had gotten quite used to watching Letterman at 10:30. When we drove down to Indianapolis, it got to be that time of the night, and there was no Dave! I had no idea about this rebel time zone stuff, and all I could think was that if we were still in Central Time, Dave should be on, and if we were back on EST, it would be 11:30 and Dave should still be on! So I went to the desk, quite upset, and was like, "Can you PLEASE tell me what time it is and what time zone I'm in?"

Apparently I was the only person in the world who didn't know about them not observing Daylight Savings Time, because I got some *very* strange looks. :D

I don't think it took Daylight Savings seriously. :D

I had to bump my GMT- value up one to get it to be right.

This is probably a stupid question - why not set the server clock to use GMT? Then you won't have to shut down the forums once a year. You could display the post time in GMT, and use a javascript converter to have the client calculate the local time equivalent in the browser.

First of all, I realize that I am bringing up a half dead thread.

Second, I noticed, once more, that the server clock is off. It seems to be about an hour fast. Was this also caused from RAM buildup, or from this (S)hitormiss character that was banned?

Is it just me, or is the server clock off by an hour again?

King Cobra

It's 54 or 55 minutes fast.

I'm pretty sure that somehow the servers got :eek:ed up when too many people came onto the forums at once. I think this causes RAM buildup, or such . Check out my thread in the Site News forums for more info from a previous occurance, which you can kind of relate to this.

Arizona doesent observe daylight savings time eather(except for Navajo Nation) and its a pain in the ass because i use one of those nifty atomic clocks that projects the time on the ceeling and its set to go over to daylight savings time and when it the times comes every year i gota get it down off the self and press buttions to move it over to west cost time from mountain standard.
