I'm interested in partitioning my external 250Gb drive to install Ubuntu on. I already have some data on the drive that I do NOT want to be erased. Can I add a partition to the drive and preserve the existing data?

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure that any partitioning will corrupt the data. Could you perhaps move it to another drive?

Thank you both! I just decided to backup my important files and partition it in Disk Utility.
