So I have my desktop pc which I bought 6 months ago.A P4 2.53 with 533Bus,the Gigabyte 8INXP board with dual channel ddr,512 ram,Ati 9800 Pro a Thermaltake Xaser II case and a 450W PSU.Not even a month passed and their you have it the new 800bus boards and processors. After that you have the new GFX 5900 and new 9800 card while the new R420 and NV40 are coming.Oh and dont forget that Intel has just abandoned the P4 architecture for a newer one.THATS IT no more upgrades.
What I am going to do when in one year this machine wont be good?I will sell it no matter how much money it will give me back.
What interesting is that my Compaq Presario Notebook has lasted longer and it will last forever from what it seems.Heck even my older Presario dating from 1999 lasted longer and I still use it.
In case you ask me what will I do with the money from the desktop let me tell you that I will buy a PB.No more desktops. What can I say the notebooks in general are lasting longer.

laptop technologies may move a little slower than the desktop's, but advancement is a fact of life... "even" PB will be updated.

don't get too worked up about wanting the newest and the best. get the stuff you need to get the work done. newer machines do not affect the performance of your own "old" machine. afterall, software companies do need to make money and they cannot code for just the greatest and the best hardware.

If you're finding that, as soon as you buy a top-of-the-range desktop, something new comes out, then perhaps you need to do your research beforehand. Same as with macs, you can generally find out about what's about to be released on the windows side. Then it's just a case of timing your purchase to when it suits you best.

Besides, with computers advancing so quickly these days, it's no wonder a new computer is going to start feeling outdated within 6 months. It's one of the things you have to live with, if you want to keep up with the latest-and-greatest available at any given time. ;)

oh stop crying. you computer is still kick a***. i have a 2ghz p4, 512mb ram, 128mb gf4 ti4400, audigy drive and more and it still pumps out my games at full detail in every category. and i built it last summer. if you honestly felt building a computer was gonna last you a long time and still ahve the greatest technology then you need a clue. enjoy your kick a** computer and build a new one when the time comes. ive told myself i will build a new computer when i have to start looking at the system requirements on the game boxes again.

I'm sorry, but that has to be the most stupid rant I have ever seen. Are you trying to tell me you seriously thought that technology would stand still, just so you could have the fastest PC for longer? HELLO! The computing world is not like that and everybody knows it.
You would rather you still had a P100 and EDO RAM in your system? Why move to Apple? Sure, Apple hardware in the last year or two hasn't really advanced much, but that's not for the lack of wanting it to. Will you be back to complain when a newer model of PowerBook comes out just after you have bought yours?

I agree that will the current rapid improvement of technology, you must try to be happy with what you have. Buy the computer that meets your needs. There will always be something better around the corner!

My PowerBook G3 (Lombard) is 400 MHz 1 meg L2 cache, 67 MHz bus, 8 meg ATi Rage video, 6 gig HD, 192 megs RAM, no airport, no firewire, no bluetooth, and *just* a 2x DVD drive, but I will tell you, it may be sadly out of date but the day I have to part with it is the day you have to PRY IT OUT OF MY DEAD COLD HANDS. Things get dated quickly in the computer field. Not long after I got my PowerBook, the Pismo with faster processors, firewire, etc came out, then shortly after, the G4. That's life and I rather feel good knowing that people can get faster and faster systems than wishing Apple would sit still for a year or two so I feel good about the age of my technology. Just think, in a few years when you get a new computer, it will be even better than the system that came out that eclipses your current one.

if your never satisfied with what you have then I don't see much joy for you in the computer world.

New and better things will always be out.

Just be happy with what you have.

What the hell was the point of that?

OH THE DRAMA, YOU DON'T HAVE THE TOP OF THE LINE MACHINE ANYMORE -- IT DOESN'T AFFECT YOUR MACHINE. THESE COMPANIES HAVE TO KEEP IT UP TO STAY ALIVE. YOUR MACHINE CAN PLAY _EVERY_ LATEST GAME AT BEST GFX POSSIBLE.

How about a warm bowl of STFU?

everything computers is doomed to be obsolete

as a former hr officer, it is understood that any computer science degrees older than five years old are useless

and computer technical certifications over five years old are useless, and in many cases officially retired by the vendor

either way, old cs degrees and old certifications are as good as confederate currency

come to think of it, my rev a ibook and equally old pc laptop are past the doorstop stage

living near silicon valley, i have met so many formerly well paid people just get tired of the relentless pace and just quit and either became happy for it or bitter...when my navy officer friend who got his master's in a computer language that got superceeded, he just jumped ship, or submarine in that case (he was making 90 dollars a month in the turkish navy as the captain) and went on to sale turkish goods to the west...for real money

i knew a lady whose company sold vacuum tube parts for computers and even as a assembly worker, she made huge bucks and could easily afford silicon valley real estate..but then silicon came along

my IT teacher used to live the high life and was an expert motherboard repair engineer and bought an expensive house two years out of university...now people replace motherboards

but sometimes retro tech is lucrative...many guitarists love to use pre silicon technology tube amps for their music and some small, specialized vendors still make them and charge dozens of dollars for parts that used to cost fifty cents when major companies made lots of them...i remember seeing 6L6 tubes in bins for less than a dollar...i should have bought hundreds of them and i could have put a down payment on a house...he he

then again, i should have bought ms when they first appeared

First of all who the hell gave some of you the permission to reply to me like this.Hey Dermeister I can think of some very interesting names for you but I dont use them in the forums. This goes to some of you also.
I generally did a complaint,I didnt say that I want the technology to stop for me.
Since this post has obviously gone wrong for some of you I will ask the admin to delete it.
It will be better for some of you to STFU posting messages like the ones you did.

You post a dumb rant like that, what do you expect. We just stated the facts, that being, things are constantly moving on faster than you can possibly keep up. Moaning about it is pointless.
