Although already expected by many, The Wall Street Journal (http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20070802-715368.html) confirms that Steve Jobs will specifically be at the Apple event on Tuesday, August 7th. The Apple event is described to be a Mac-focused event with many expectations of a new iMac revision.

What are everyone's thoughts on a possible video feed? Apple hasn't done these for keynotes for several years, and has stuck to releasing the video footage several hours after the event, but it sure would be nice. I realize this is a smaller event than MWSF, WWDC, Apple Expo, etc., but Apple has released video coverage in the past.

Long live Steve Jobs, how about petitioning for Steve Jobs Appreciation Day? We can get all of Steve's buddies together: Jonathan Ives, Bill Gates, the PC and the Mac guy from the commercials, the Intel guy, the EB Games guy, the US Patent workforce, the FCC, Apple's lawyers/attorneys, and maybe the iPod + iPhone battery recall department people? It will be a big bang. But remember, it's STRICTLY Mac-related!

By the way, there is one more thing...

For party favors, we can give out Apple Pippens, iPod + iPhone change-out-battery-do-it-yourself-kits, and a copy of Windows Vista! That will make everyone invest more into Apple!

With Steve J giving the presentation there is always the chance of one more thing. Top of my list is the ultra lite MBP.

While everyone is focused on the iMac the word is that this will be a Mac only presentation. Hopefully that leaves room for an upgraded Mac mini and a mid range desktop for those current mini users that want to upgrade.

The mini was billed as a way to give a Mac a try and a lot of these new users would like to move up a bit, but not to the iMac or MP. A miid range that can be upgraded (OK, half a MP) targets these good folks - and me as I use a PB hooked up to a 23" display in the office.

I've been saying this in other posts but I just bet the delay in iMacs is related to Leopard only features including gestural support on screen or in a trackpad device (I hope it's on screen). I also think it curious that C&C3 didn't ship in July like promised at the keynote. Remember that it was hinted there were special "features" that he couldn't mention. Why not if it only supported OS 10.4? Also, the rumors of another OS 10.4 upgrade in the works for special developers is also intriguing. I think this will likely be special iMac gestural support until Leopard is released. Again, keep in mind that the iPhone is running a version of OSX. The touch screen interface is just a version of the Dock, etc. Apple can blow away the PC market with a touch screen Mac with gestural support ala iPhone and Leopard when it ships in October. That, coupled with rumors of new Cinema displays (which should also support touch).

We'll know if I'm right on Tuesday. Let's hope so.:):apple:

Come on SJ!

Daddy needs an iPhone sock!!!

:p;):D

Seriously, realistically I'm hoping for:

- new 20"/24" aluminum enclosure Macs (drop the "i" already Apple) with 256MB VRam and 512MB VRAM respectively. This would justify keeping the prices at the same $1499 and $1999 price points and opening up a nice pricing gap between the Mac mini's and Mac desktop's for a new Mac Pro mini tower line.

- widescreen 11" "MacTouch / MacInTouch"?:D (ultra-portable, slate/tablet with multi touch input and virtual keyboard ala iPhone.) Would be able to stand it up portrait or landscape like a picture frame and could plug-in a keyboard/mouse if preferred, especially the new thin MacBook-like keyboard (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/07/27/purported_photos_of_new_imac_keyboard_stir_debate.html) (possible shortened notebook version offered that cuts off at the RETURN key) and mouse that will ship with the new Macs (formerly iMacs) to use instead of the virtual keyboard. This would be perfect for the back to school buying season.

- Core 2 Duo Mac mini with better graphics system and pre-N wireless (IF the mini hasn't been $h*t canned altogether already) at the same $599 and $799 price points to not cannibalize Apple TV potential sales at $299/$399 but at the same time staying far enough away from the lowest end Mac at $1499 to allow for new Mac Pro mini towers at $999 and $1299.

- oh for the love of DOG APPLE, PLEASE give us a couple of Mac Pro mini towers at $999 and $1299 (256MB and 512MB VRam respectively).

- Backlit Cinema Displays (20"/-24"-/30") with built in iSights and $100-$200 price drops ($499/$799/$1599) would be perfect additions for new Mac mini's and/or Mac Pro mini towers.

If the new Macs are really gonna shed the 17" consumer model at $1299 as rumored (afterall, Apple can quietly keep the $999 17" educational Mac), then the line-up I just described is totally reasonable.

I'm also hoping for (if not at this Mac based event, then soon after):

- Updated iPods... duh. Will NOT be all touchscreen because the click wheel is needed for iPod games and the multi-touch input will remain exclusive to the iPhone (and possibly the MacTouch/MacInTouch I described above) for now.

- Updated Apple Hi-Fi with wireless audio streaming capability.

- Airport Express with pre-N wireless and composite video streaming capability. Component, and later higher HD (1080p+) support, will distinguish Apple TV from this updated Airport Express.

After the leather case/iPod hifi disaster of an event, having Steve there is no indication of anything. For all we know, he might just introduce a suede iPhone case or something.

That would be fantastic, but what are the chances?? It's ONLY been 3 (+) years since the displays were introduced and there have been almost no updates/refreshes since. :(

Many folks have hoped for new displays with features like built-in iSight, HDMI in/out, etc., but there has been not even a glimmer of change or rumor of refresh...

If they are not unveiled Tuesday, which I regretfully feel is probably wishful thinking, what are the chances that new Cinema Displays will be released in October as a (IMHO) great way to showcase Leopard? ;)

OMFG, Really? I've been waiting for one. Do you think it will come in different colors? Will it be in stock the day he announces it?

Edit: If this is $99 or less, I am so getting at least one.
I so want to be you.

I'd be happy with some new iMovie chapters.

Sounds good to me.

Come on, people.

If a new iMac is introduced you know there is a great probability of the gold master iLife coming out with it. What use is a new computer without new software? Steve knows you need to give use and versatility with fashion and design.

So my bets are on:

• new iMacs
• new iLife
• new iPods

There has been talk of keyboards and stuff, but somehow I doubt it will be more then a redesign rather then something groundbreaking. If we get a new iWork it would be awesome as well- get the spread sheets going!

What will be there, considering my phone conversation yesterday with SJ:

- new form-factor iMacs in 20, 24 and 27" models, Santa Rosa and top GFX;

- new MacMini/Mac with Core 2 Duo;

- iLife 08 demo;

- Leopard update.

I'd sign up to be an organ donor for the sole purpose of keeping Steve Jobs alive as long as possible (and you should, too, dammit!). >.>

On a more serious note, I really think we're going to see something revolutionary. This feels like something much bigger than just a revamped iMac.
Why would you give an organ to Steve Jobs who has done little to no philanthropic work with the money he has made. I would much rather give Bill Gates support than Jobs.

As for the keynote, this can't be singularly Mac. Too much hype.

Why would you give an organ to Steve Jobs who has done little to no philanthropic work with the money he has made. I would much rather give Bill Gates support than Jobs.

Oh please. You shouldn't go down this road here.

Just because billy g felt obligated to carry on the philanthropic tradition that his PARENTS had started long before he was able to contribute anything himself after having let them down by dropping out of Harvard among other reasons (mainly his wife Melinda's prodding and especially to gain a more innocent image in the face of his companies anti-trust conviction here in the U.S. back in 2001), doesn't change the fact that his contributions were from ill gotten gains.

Steve Jobs and Apple are too busy changing the way the world interacts with technology by innovating devices and services. billy g was (until he jumped the sinking m$ ship last year in the face of getting his and his companies own a$$ handed to them by SJ and Apple as they have been doing for over the past year), and steve "screeching call for developers and dance sweaty monkey boy, dance!" ballmer (http://www.crazyapplerumors.com/?p=899#comments) are only busy innovating new ways to flagrantly steal Apple's ideas and to market them as their own to a not so near as foolish anymore public.

Of course I realize that billy g's contributions are helpful to the worldwide community overall, so I don't mind taking money from a thief for that cause.

But he's still just an untalented thief in the end.

Many criminals (especially mobsters) and terrorist organizations (Hezbollah in Lebanon) "give" to their communities in order to try and "brainwash" the public from knowing (or remembering) how it is that they got the ability to give in the first place. To this day, infamous Colombian drug lord and mass murderer Pablo Escobar is heralded as a national hero by Colombian locals which "benefited" from his blood money.

Don't be fooled by a wolf in sheep's clothing. Especially an ignorant and cowardly one like billy g who happened to make one good decision that is irrelevant now and is exactly why windows users are switching to Macs by the hundreds of thousands year over year... he sacrificed quality control for marketshare. Now that the common public along with every other computer user is demanding security, reliability, and ease of use when executing todays more involved computer tasks in relation to the tasks that they were limited to in the past primarily because of the cruel joke and flawed OS that is windows, everyone is screaming for better computer products that are derived from a much higher level of quality control between the hardware, the OS, and even online services.

They're demanding Macs.

If it walks like a thief, and talks like a thief, then it must be billy g... but I'll gladly take a thief's money for good wordly causes without praising him for it.

ON TOPIC:

As for the keynote, this can't be singularly Mac. Too much hype.

Did BG wrong you in a past life or cut off alimony or something? Your rant takes Anti-MS-Mac-Fanboyism to a disturbingly low level. BG made his money legally (and where not quite so legally MS has gone through the courts as would any other corporation) and is now stepping away from MS to spend more time on his philanthropic work. Who started the fund and the corporate issues MS has been faced with do not detract from the aid he gives. Don't look a gift horse in the mouth, to be concise. I hope Steve has several 'one more things'...

By this I mean several really big things...

A new form-factor iMac seems to be the item of choice in he forums. I hope so too as a couple of PC-using friends are waiting for a new design before they buy.

I am hoping for a mid-range tower - somewhere between the iMac and the MacPro. I have a G5 Tower and want something new but a MacPro is honestly more than I need (and the form factor is too big). A more powerfull headless iMac is needed I think, but let's wait and see...not long now

I would like to see the Apple line up for desktops covering 4 basic quadrants, namely:

Mac mini
iMac
'new mini-tower with a really-cool-name-that-I-could-not even-come-close-to-guessing-due-to-its-compete-coolness'
and MacPro.

And how about iLife that supports hard disk video cameras - I mean it is iMovie HD but no hard disk camera support? Go figure

I only have mini DV cameras, but from my understanding you simply copy the videos off the camera if it is hdd based, right?

iMove HD means it is capable of high definition video. It has nothing to do with the type of storage the camera uses.

Maybe we'll be seeing an ultraportable touch-screen "tablet....." You know, bigger than the iPhone but looking a lot like it, and yet smaller than the MB or MBP.....

Well, I can dream, can't I?

Maybe the new rumored ultra portable, solid-state laptops will be simply multitouch tablets? There's no doubt that multitouch interfaces are the future.

I doubt something like that will be released tomorrow.

groove-agent
Aug 6, 2007, 03:20 PM
I just want a 24" iMac with a faster-than-ever processor, multi-touch features (http://www.macrumors.com/2007/08/02/apple-exploring-multitouch-interface-gestures/), a free Leopard upgrade, and half the price of the previous models. C'mon, Steve. Is that too much to ask?

A multitouch Imac would be awkward. You'd be sitting behind your desk posed like an orchestral conductor with your arms partially extended over your desk.

The multitouch mac would have to be in a tablet format - kinda like those PADs in Star Trek.

Ok, there has to be another closet trekker out there that knows what i'm talking about! :)

Aug 6, 2007, 03:22 PM
Could this possibly be the apple tablet computer that every mac fan wants? If Stevie is reading this PLEASE MAKE AN iTAB! :)

My quandary with the tablet thing is that Steve explicitly said that tablets were not a good market to get into which is why they allowed those modbooks to be made.

However, maybe with the success of multitouch, this may have changed.

Hopefully it will be more than "just" a new iMac. How about updating iLife, iWork and Aperture? And how about an Airport Express with 802.11n, so that it will not slow down my network?

I'm pretty certain we'll see new versions of iLife and iWork. The timing would be perfect for back to school...

how about leopard early...

"All I want for christmas...is to have had leopard for many months, to have had leopard for many months..."

I'm personally not holding my breath for leopard. I can't say there are any "must have" features for me. Tiger was more of a revolutionary update with spotlight and dashboard. Those two features totally changed my computing experience.

1 - new, revamped .Mac features including a mindblowing 2Gb storage space as standard, and one more thing...new Mighty Mouse with THREE virtual buttons!!!

Why is Bill Gates making an appearance tomorrow? I found it surprising that Bill and Steve were both together during that interview. It makes me believe there's some sort of new collaboration in the works.
