I went to disk utility to "verify disk" and it says "volume header needs minor repair" and "the volume Macintosh HD needs to be repaired." but then an error message pops up: "Error:The underlying task reported failure on exit" and the option to repair disk is still grayed out...how can i repair disk then?

help please

Either boot from the OSX discs and use that version of Disk Utility, or run fsck in Single User Mode. Keep repairing it 'til it makes no changes. 🙂
