I haven't tried this yet, simply because I don't want to waste the time getting the demo while I wait to buy the full product, since (if I read this correctly) I can't just upgrade the demo into the full product by entering a paid serial code or something similar. I don't want to waste the drive space - but I do want to use it...
Anyone try it yet? Is it speedy? Does it work as suggested?
Has it crashed yet? <- that's the biggest question I've got, along with "How's the printing and PDF output?"

truthfully, if you want to buy it, and want more than just a demo, download poisoned and get the full version. then, if you like it, go buy it. if not, delete it and get InDesign. ;)

Well it's up on apples website. (http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/productivity_tools/quarkxpress.html)
I figured I wouldn't hurt to give it a try. I have no idea if I'll bash it, or praise it. I'll post my results later.

Please let me know, as I am interested in your findings. I understand that the demo might be limited or you just really want me to RTFM and figure it out myself. In any event, I thank you in advance for taking the time to read this :)
Not only is this a carbonized application (about time, really.), but this is a major release (the previous was 5.0?).
I've used 5.0 quite a bit in the past - what are the significant differences in 6, if any? How does the compatability faire in 6 versus 5?
Although my direct use of Quark dissolved prior to Mac OS X; I know that people not having their precious Quark kept them away from Mac OS X (most average users do not understand the concept of ``Classic'' versus native).
I'll tell you this though. It's almost a blessing - as the thought of those types of users attempting to operate under Mac OS X 10.0 just frightens me.

OK, well I fiddled with the demo briefly, and it is in fact slower than quark 4 running in classic. However it did open very fast. It managed to open a TV book that I have done in quark 4. Everything looked intact, so that's a plus... it said my document had some minor repairs, and then fixed them. Not uncommon from quark 4.
The one thing I did like that was fixed was the zoom/type/crash bug I used to experience. This is what happens to me in quark 4: I zoom in to see what exactly I am editing. When zoomed in too close, and I type a letter - crash - quark unexpectedly quits. This is no longer the case in quark 6.
There are some funky gui display problems now and then... like the clipboard for instance. If you resize the window (minimize using the corner drag) what ever it has in it's clipboard (images/text), will become broken and not as viewable as a $899 app should be.

What about Quartz text rendering?
I heard it doesn't support it, which pretty much makes it worthless for typesetting.

are people actually going to buy this after it took them ............. (sorry, ran out of fingers and toes)
a long time to get it out for OSX?
Jeez - InDesign is so much easier to use and it has better integration with the other Adobe Apps you use (well duh!), along with the common Adobe layout.
peh - they dont even deserve capatilization - hopeless quark.

OMG... no transparency options... that's not cool.
...and why is it that an app that has to deal with fonts, not have a better set of options? They should at least have some customizable fonts effects utility. Something like what apple did with FPC 4 and LiveType (http://www.apple.com/finalcutpro/livetype.html). They don't even have to deal with moving images.
...They got to get on the Quartz bandwagon.
...They need to ditch the web crap... does anybody use that?
If they add these features and make a few revisions... they just might have a cool application.
