But when i search for it in Spotlight, I find it is there and when I click "reveal in finder" it then finally shows. I may have lots of hidden icons on my desktop that I can't see.

devman macrumors 65816 Aug 5, 2007 #6 Ok, try this. Open the terminal and type cd desktop rm -i .DS_store the rm will prompt you before it deletes the file. Make sure you're in the right directory (desktop) first. Then log out and log back in.
