Look what I've just found... (may be fake of course)

How does adsense work do they just pick up on trends through crawling software and then generate adds.
Interesting idea about the 28" though, never thought of that size for an iMac always jumped to 30"

Huh. Where did you get it? I know it's hard to hit the same ad in AdSense rotation, but link us up anyway.

Search Google for "new imac with touchscreen". Only two results... it's unlikely that AdSense would have put together that particular string through crawling.

I found the picture (not the adsense) here: http://www.melamorsicata.it/mela/
Italian blog about macs'n'stuff
EDIT: they don't tell which site it's from unfortunately

Adsense doesn't generate ads automatically. Advertisers write the ads and submit them to the network. If you have an Adwords account, you can create an ad that says just about anything.
Why is an Italian site displaying an ad in English? And why are the fonts so different between the iMac and and the ads below it? Hmmm... what could the answer be?

Looks fake to me.
Unless I'm going blind, isn't the tone of green and the font size a tick off from the ad below it?
Also, I wonder why it would be an iMac ad but instead of going to /imac/ it points to /mac/ instead?
Granted that's the main Mac page, but you would think it would produce more further interest than having to click through to the actual iMac page. Maybe not, I don't keep track of Apples links on adsense, but logically a single click to the most relevant advertised information would make more sense to me.

I just don't see a touch screen as practical to be sold with every computer. It would drive the price on a computer way up and very few people could afford it. I can see Apple making a new product to offer touch screen, but no updating their existing line to fulfill this.

You can put out an English ad for global distribution, which could be a possible explanation for the font difference. Whether or not to accept adsense ads in another language, if I remember correctly, is an option for the adsense user.
Granted, I haven't had to get into either my adwords or adsense accounts lately, but I'm pretty sure on at least the first part and being able to have an ad in English that's globally "published".

This is fake; the fonts, colours and even the size of the white box don't match up. Plus, the link is to apple.com/mac instead of apple.com/imac. :)

I could see 26/27" but 28" is unlikely as afaik there are no current 28" screens.

Exactly what I was thinking. Unless Steve decided to be super, extra generous. Well he did give all full time and temporary Apple employees free iPhones though.
But I still don't think a 28" iMac with touchscreen will be $1799 base price.

The ad doesn't imply that price. Why would you bring it up?

The price was implied from this thread (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=338080).

okay just look at the ad. the font is so much different from the two below it. shouldn't people pay more attention when creating 'realistic' fakes. sigh.

This is actually what I do for a living, so I can for once give some insight in to this.
The ad will be real, however it was most likely placed by an Apple affiliate. They write the copy, and set a bid price. An add such as this will almost certainly generate significant clicks - which in turn means lots of cookies on people's computers for the Apple store. Therefore, regardless of what gets announced tomorrow, it's a fair chance that a large number of people will order *something*. The affiliate receives a commission on all sales (within a 30 day period).
Basically it's just a clever way of placing Apple store cookies on your systems, and creaming a percentage off what everyone spends when the store is back online tomorrow.

Wow, why even post this rumor? The clarity of the fonts between the ad and those below it leave ZERO doubt about this one, FAKE!
C'mon Page 2! At least lets restrict ourselves to using well made fakes for article subjects, the maker of this one didn't even take the time to apply a blur affect after adding the text, which would have taken less time than it took you to add this article. Creating the whole fake image would've taken less time than it took me to write this comment, and that's with me taking the time to blur the text to match my lame screen capture.
EDIT: Also note the different colors of green for the URL's.

Wouldn't Apple call it the iMac with Multi-touch anyway?
Even if they did use "touchscreen" they would use it consistently, never allowing "touchscreen" and "touch screen" to coexist in an ad.

Ultimate fakery. The font and language doesn't match up with the rest, and if they were advertising an iMac, wouldn't the url be apple.com/imac?

The ad will be real...
So in your experience as an advertising professional, you often see Google Adesnse ads with different fonts and colors in the same ad block? How exactly does the affiliate advertiser achieve this?

A multitouch computer requires a multitouch OS. Considering that would probably mean Leopard (at the least) and Leopard doesnt come out till the fall, I think its safe to say the new imac wont be multitouch.

Fake.
The ad uses both 'touchscreen' (one word) and 'touch screen' (two words).
Consistency in marketing is very important.

Note to faker: Next time, get the source code to the page, and edit it with your fake text. Then load the revised html into your browser, and take a screenshot of that. Nobody will believe it, but at least it won't look so horribly lame.

That is the fakest thing I've ever seen! The background behind the "text ad" is spilling over into the gray. Here's a tip, if you're going to make a fake rumor, use something better than MS Paint.

I think you can pretty much fake an adsense ad anyways, if you want to pay money for clicks to Apple you can make up your own ad. So this faker was just plain lazy.

Can you imagine using a touch screen on a desktop computer? Your arms would get tired after just a little use. It'd be great for occasional use, but couldn't be your main input. Now, a gestures input device on the desk would be a completely different story. That would be really cool.
