View Full Version : Stalin plotted to kill John Wayne?!

Reuters thinks it might be true:
That's some crazy cold war stuff. I don't think I'll really understand what living through the '50s and '60s was like politically.

Not possible. Stalin was an athiest and religion is the source of all evil, according to many of our friends here.

Not quite sure that I'm making the leap from "Stalin conspired to kill John Wayne because of his anti-communist stance" to "Stalin was an atheist [for whom] religion was the source of all evil".
(By the way, some people have pointed out that Marxism seeks to create a paradise on earth -- a quasi-religious goal -- and that's why Marxists despise classical religion: because Marxism is itself a subtle form of religion.)

Now that's just not right. And you can imagine what sort of fiasco that would have caused. Weirdness......
Very glad I wasn't alive in those times.

I doubt that.
Comeone not even John Wayne has such a pull on the people that he could alone cause a surge in anti-communism which was already underway in the 50's and 60's.

Its not that John Wayne was very anti-communist - it was Stalin who was not exactly all there near the end of his life. The man was a bit psycho - you'd have to be to be able to kill millions of people.
And you're a little too young to know what John Wayne was like back then and his affect on the times. So am I, actually. But he was the American Hero, he was bigger than life.

We are fortunate that Nikita Krushchev was a fan of John Wayne, a larger than life figure. I happened to be growing up during that period. Sadly we are still in a fight against Marxist's in our very midst!

Is your point that you're sad that we're fighting Marxists (rather than, for instance, just shrugging and lumping them in with the flat-earthers) or that you're sad that we still must fight these Marxists (rather than having let McCarthy and the Boy Scouts root them out)? Just curious, since your post was a bit ambiguous.
