Crash/Mail issue

My G4 PB just locked up, starting with an Airport/network failure, but after rebooting all works except Mail.

This dialog box appears when I try to launch -

"Mail cannot update your mailboxes because your home directory is full. You must free up space in your home folder before using mail. Delete unneeded documents or move to another folder."

I thought the home folder was dynamic.

I've rebuilt the directory with Disk Warrior, but no change in status. There's plenty of HD space available.

iChat isn't working either.

Yes, after 3 hours on the phone with Apple Care, an Archive and Install and many tears I was finally helped by someone who knew of this solution.
