I'm looking for a nice looking either very slim sleve together with a not to bloated/large bag or a well protected sleve which doesn't need a special bag at all.

If it's rather large I would prefer back pack over shoulder strap, and I don't want any leather, mocca, skin, fur, ..

So what are the greatest bags out there? Preferably not more expensive than a whore for a day.

I'm waiting for my bag from Chrome to arrive. Lotsa room plus you can use whatever sleeve you want and it cost about what a whore would charge for one go ;)

I love my older High Sierra, I think it's similar to this one

It's the only bag I've had that holds up to my abuse. From day to day commute to work with laptop, cables, adapters and a change of clothes, to a 1-2 day work trip stuffed to the point you'd think the zippers would rip. It's going on 2 years with no signs of stopping anytime soon and usually my backpacks lasted 3-9 months.

After going through many bags, I have to say the ones from Tom Bihn are among the best.

I currently use a Tom Bihn Ego with a Horizontal Brain Cell sleeve. The sleeve does a great job protecting my Macbook while also offering easy access.

You don't need a bag to use this sleeve. If you want, you can attach a strap to the sleeve and use it like a bag. You can check it out here.

Are the "holder" included? ;D

I'm not that much of a fan of shoulder bags thought, they look great but wears like **** ;D

I still have the vram worries, and I'm thinking if 15.4" + 20" external ips screen or 17" are the better option, the ips screen will have higher quality and total amount of pixels will be similair but 17" screen is more convenient to use because it's only one. If I save money by going with 15.4" I can get a gaming PC / iMac for starcraft 2 if needed.
I still don't like how Apple diss "gamers", and I'm not even one for real, just casual gamer =P

The laptop "holder" or sleeve is an additional $34. I don't think it will wear like crap since it has the messenger-style strap and buckle so it will be just as sturdy as a backpack...plus I think it looks cool and makes my almost 40 y/o age seem 20 ;)

Specifically, I have the Super Ego. Great for lugging around a laptop PLUS tons of other stuff, including cables, other electronics, big 'ol college textbooks, etc etc etc...

You pay a premium, but I challenge you to find a better build bag. The workmanship of Tom Bihn's products is remarkable, and any review you find will tell you the same thing.

You can also find many much smaller bags with the same great style of all Tom Bihn's bags for a bit less, the Super Ego is just a bit huge. :)

lol...I wish it came with the girl ;)

The strap goes over one shoulder but there is another strap that goes across the front to the opposite corner of the bag. This was developed to secure the bag and prevent movement when a messenger is on a bike. Additionally, it also makes taking off the bag quick and easy. And, again, it looks cool and is atypical of laptop bags and backpacks out there that advertise what you have inside.

I use the STM Small Alley bag. Here's the like to its page in the Apple store:

It's a great bag. Small. Durable. It's comfortable over the shoulder. Oh ya, and it's cheap, only forty bucks.

I used to use it with my Macbook and now use it with my m1210. It fits both perfectly.

I really can't say enough about this bag. It's the best one I've ever had.

I really like the design of the latch in the photo in the above post. Reminds me of some 1960/70s car seatbelt latch.

warning about the chrome bags.

many of my friends have this bag. one warning is that the buckle is quick release. and people have been known to push the button with out notice. and my friends had their computer in bag when the buttons where pushed. luckily there was some padding.

but if your in the middle of the street and one of your friends plays a joke you cold be out one laptop.

other then that chrome makes a great bag also there is also extra shoulder support on one side of the strap.

Yeah I've been thinking about that one or the Tucano Cobra Horizontal Limit which are also quite cheap:

I don't know which one I like better, the Tucano seems to have a better fit for things but the page says it's "glossy" and I don't want a glossy bag :D

I have a Tom Bihn Empire Builder, which I use when I need to look all professional, but it's far too heavy to be carrying around all the time! My main bag is the Crumpler Match Maker, which easily fits my laptop, graphics tab, mouse, power adapter, books, ipod, headphones and food in. My favourite things about it are that it remains light on my back even when it has my camera kit and laptop in, and the compartment with all of your expensive stuff in isn't accessible whilst the bag's on my back.

as far as a protective sleeve goes, I use a black neopreney type thing by incase, which is pretty awesome!

As for a sleeve: I own two of them: tucano second skin for macbook and the incase neoprene sleeve. I reviewed the tucano already on my blog if anyone is interested please click here.
It's a rather detailed long review but I think it might be helpful.

I got mine from the local Apple Store. after I looked at this bag, none of the other did anything for me. Compact, protected, and it will haoul what i "need" to carry. It is a here -

It's a Brenthaven Metro (Black) for 12 - 15.4-inch Notebooks. YMMV, but I like it.
