LOL don't take the advice given in this thread seriously. rm -rf / deletes everything on your hard drive.

To be serious about it, modern *NIX boxes (OS X included) have a version of rm that checks specifically for "-rf /" and either flat-out disallows it or asks makes you aware of what's about to happen.
