View Full Version : So... when the HELL is Apple going to update its Windows NVIDIA drivers?

Does anyone know? As far as I understand, everyone (myself included) who's tried to connect an external monitor to their SR MBP's on Windows Vista has not been able to get it to display full resolution. I have a 19" widescreen Samsung monitor with 1440x900 native resolution, yet Vista can only get it to display a 1024x768 resolution with the drivers from Boot Camp 1.3. This really sucks because I want to be able to play Battlefield 2 on a nice big screen for a more immersing experience. (Hey, this is important stuff.) Apple... UPDATE MY DRIVERS ALREADY!

did you install bootcamp 1.4? i wonder if it'd help the issue.

!! I had no idea they ever released a 1.4... I never heard an announcement or anything. I must try this straightaway...

Bootcamp 1.4 does not fix the issue. I have a feeling it will be quite a while until we get this problem fixed because Nvidia is currently having many problems with all of their vista drivers (just go to the nvidia's own forums - they even admit their vista drivers aren't up to par)

You're right ziutek. I just installed 1.4 and it made no difference. My screen still only goes up to 1024x768. :mad:

Why don't you just download the latest ones from Nvidia instead of waiting for Apple?

NVIDIA unfortunately doesn't update their mobile GPU drivers. They leave that up to the manufacturer. If I try to install their latest drivers from their website, it gives me an error saying it couldn't find compatible hardware to install the drivers on.

I actually got a support ticket on their website once and asked for help with the issue, and they said that I should talk to Apple, not them, since my system is a notebook.

lol... there is no bug fix in bootcamp 1.4

it's same with 1.3

my keyboard doesn't work too...

i really have no idea

You can get higher resolutions under Vista on an external display, but not using DVI.

According to laptopvideo2go, the mobile GPU drivers are the same as the standard ones, but it is up to the OEM to create an appropriate .INF file. Or you can use the modded ones on that site.

However, as previously noted, the latest drivers from NVIDIA have not fixed this problem.

One more thing: in my case Boot Camp 1.4 reverted to the default Vista VGA drivers. I had to install a second time to get the lastest graphics drivers.

Likewise. Did you also have some other problems, like not seeing the Windows Explorer icon on the Explorer thingy in the taskbar when minimized, and not being able to use Control Panel (assuming you're using Vista)? These problems were fixed when I installed the graphics driver though.

This set of Nvidia drivers was released by Toshiba specifically for the GeForce 8600M GT. You don't even have to use one of laptopvideo2go's modded INF files (or so it sounds.)

I'm about to test them, gotta let my restore image finish creating.

Haven't installed them quite yet...but here's something I've never understood. There are 160-series Nvidia drivers out right now, v162.50 is the latest for XP 32-bit. Why are laptop manufacturers still putting out 100-series drivers? The Toshiba drivers that were listed as "new" on August 10th are v101.53. It seems to me that these are muy old compared to v162.50...am I missing something with Nvidia's driver versioning system?
