how long does it take jag to start up in ibook?

i am considering buying a new ibook, but i want to know how long it takes for the computer to switch on(no sarcasm pls). how long the os takes to be up and running from when you switch the on button.
its important cos i i really hate waiting for computers to startup esp if they are slow. Win xp takes a minutes on a 2.6ghz is macos on 900mhz faster or not?

does it take more than a minute or not?

would panther have a faster startup time or not?

I shut down my computer every night on my 700 MHz iBook. As long as you shut the computer down properly when you turn it off, it takes about a minute to start up to a usable state. If you didn't shut it down properly, it takes FOREVER because it has to do a disk check.

it only takes a second or two to wake from sleep... os x has a really nice sleep mode that uses very little power. i've left my powerbook asleep for about a week and then opened it up to have enough battery power left to work... without worrying about booting up again.

since laptops HD's are still a bit slower, there's really nothing you can do. It doesn't matter what OS you have, it's still gonna run at a minimum 20-30 seconds. I get around 23 seconds b/c i'm running an ATA100 drive on my desktop (i run xp however).

Until laptops can even match the desktop in harddrive speed then the bootup is always gonna be "slow". It is nothing compared the 95 though.

I've been bawled out many times for shutting down my iBook but I stand by my decision to shut it down at the end of the day for two reasons:

-My uptime normally was a week before my computer would do something screwy (not necessarily crash/KP). Now it never does anything like that.

-The sleep LED and my Griffin PowerMate kept me awake at night (the computer is in my bedroom).

I don't have any problem with spending the extra minute or two to shut down and boot up my iBook at the end of the day. Frankly, I'm not sure why anybody doesn't do the same, really.

well it takes a while but its really not that big of a deal. but i installed panther on my 12 inch powerbook and it boots up real fast now, ive been very pleased.

i used two posts cos i only got 2 replies on the other which were comparing sleeping to shutting down

According to different benchmarks I've seen on OS X bootup, it takes around 35-60 seconds usually to fully boot up OS X depending on system config and OS version number. As someone has mentioned already, Panther is a lot faster and one of the promises made for it is quicker boot time (which would be appreciated, since my OS 9 takes maybe 18 seconds to bootup and if I am to upgrade I'd prefer my new system to be *faster* and not *slower* than the one I am replacing).

well i didnt count it today but i can easily tell its no more than 30 seconds, it was incredible.
