I have a PC and feel i might need to access my PC programs. Is it really a good idea to have windows on your macbook pro? Can it harm my mac OS? Can it make my programs run slower on the mac side? Are there and problems when you run parallels or boot camp?
I'm kinda new to all this.

There won't be any side effects in your Mac side. Unless the new partition takes all the hard drive space available and leaves you with nothing, you shouldn't have any problems.
I have never used parallels, ut I have read you need to have enough RAM to have a pleasant experience. 1 GB should be fine, 2GB recommended. Depends on what you intend to do.
And for what concerns Bootcamp, it would make your Mac run Windows natively, it would be as if you had a PC.

If you use Parallels your computer will slow down depending how good the specs are, because it's sharing resources.
