I was wondering which one has more raw power under the hood when running universal apps:
iMac 24" SR 2.4Ghz or PowerMac G5 Dual 2.5Ghz?
Any first hand experience or benchmarks with similar configurations?

iMac has a better speedmark 4.5 overall. But what type of apps do you usually run?
279 vs 270
Although G5 review was done in 11/05. The score might not be the same now.

ya the advantage of the mac pro is that you can upgrade it like crazy, not the base model.

You can get Geekbench (http://www.primatelabs.ca/geekbench/) (my favorite benchmark ;)) results for the iMac Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz here (http://www.primatelabs.ca/blog/2007/08/24-inch-imac-performance-august-2007/), and Power Mac G5 @ 2.5GHz here (http://www.primatelabs.ca/blog/2007/06/mac-performance-june-2007/). The Geekbench scores for both are:
iMac Core 2 Duo @ 2.4GHz: 3243
Power Mac G5 @ 2.5GHz: 2103
So in terms of raw processing power, it looks like the iMac is ahead (far ahead) of the Power Mac G5.

The new iMac will be faster than the PowerMac G5.
