I have and older iMac I brought home from the office. I am trying to get 10.2 installed on the thing but it won't work. When I boot 10 it is version 10.0.4 . When I try to upgrade and click on the hard drive to install it it gives me and error saying I dont have the space. I have 53 GB open, so it shouldn't be a problem. Any answers? Thanks.

i would try hitting up a reseller and see if they have any of the free 10.1 disc laying around, i know i have a million. althought it shouldnt be a problem but upgrading to 10.1 may help, and its free so you have nothing to lose.

Boot from the 10.2 CD, open Disk Utility from the Installer menu, and get it to check your HD. See if that helps.

You need to update the firmware before you can install 10.2 on an early or earlier iMac.

I would try just initializing the hard drive. Boot up from the 10.2 CD by holding C at startup and when the whole installer thing comes up, go to the file menu and chose disk utility. Through it, you can initialize the hard drive (this will delete everything). Then you can install 10.2 without problems.

Hmmmmm - The firmware (as discussed in an earlier post) is probably the biggest stumbling block. I have noted on SOME older systems that performing incremental upgrades is generally more successful that one large combined update. Try that first.
Or . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Buy a nice shiny G4 iMac or G5 - not an option maybe, but G3 in some areas does not "cut the mustard" any more !
Good luck
