What are the chances of the MacBook Pros getting an update sooner rather than later? The new iMacs are dead sexy, but I'm drooling over the idea of a similarly-built MacBook Pro.

I'd seriously consider selling my (now) last-generation iMac to get one.

General opinion: new MacBook Pros soon?

please?

The buyers guide (http://guides.macrumors.com/MacBook_Pro_Buyer%27s_Guide) shows that the MBP was recently updated and so is very unlikely to get a redesign anytime soon...

I wouldn't count on it. If anything, the iMac became more "pro" looking with this update. The mbp design has been around for a while, and it still looks great.

As for internal updates, I don't think we'll see them until about late October or early November (possibly even a little later). Apple seems to like a six month update cycle for its notebooks, and since the Intel switch, they've stuck to that. However, know that even if the mbps get updated before Christmas time (which I believe they will), they probably won't be much more powerful than they are now. If you need one now, then just buy it. Since you have an iMac that seems to be working fine, I'd keep it and buy a new MBP after it has been updated and Leopard has been released.

last i checked, they are already made with aluminum, so what needs to be updated? really, though, apple updated the macbook pros somewhat recently, and i don't think an update will be happening for a while (late fall perhaps?). when apple does re-design the macbook pro, i think you'll see a more modest update like a macbook-like keyboard (illuminated, of course) and a magnetic latch. that's it (my guess).
