Headphones only work on iPod and YouTube

For some reason the supplied headphones that came with my iPhone only work when listening to the iPod or YouTube. They do not work when trying to make a phone call. I have not yet done a reset as I am trying to avoid losing all my information and having to re-sync everything. Any suggestions of what I can do? Thanks.
 
I was able to fix this. After searching the forums more thoroughly and reading through numerous threads I was able to solve this issue. Simply put the headphones in and remove them a few times and it should work.
