I'm trying to use my roomate's iMac as a file-server (we're both on the same network), but he's running OS 9. I've got hundreds of media files I'd like to transfer, but I'm getting error code -37 because my OSX file names are longer than 31 characters.
Does anyone know a program (or a technique) that'll easily reduce many file names down to 31 characters? T
Thanks for any help*

there's an app called kilometre browser i think.. look it up on versiontracker.com
it will view long file names in OS 9
dunno if this helps much
you could also try burning them to CDs...

If you set up carracho client/server to transfer the files then Carracho will truncate the filenames. You might get some garbage at the end of the file name but it will work. Set you OS X box to be ther server and set the OS 9 box to be the client.
One interesting note, hotline does not do that. I am using it to share files in my subnet with a PC, if the file names are too big on the PC, they cant be uploaded to me, it just hangs.
