Backing up software

I just purchased a new computer and was trying to load old software I had on there and the disc is too badly scratched. So I was trying to back up some of my other disc's but am unable to. It won't let me copy them. They are DVD discs, any way to do this?

software DVD/CDs are all protected. not simple data disk, so you can't, and not supposed to, copy it directly.

anyway, what software disks are you trying to backup?
