The text messages you get as notifications, are they free? Or will they come off of my plan?

it's just data... so it won't use any of your text messages.

You can set it up to send you an SMS message when you are not looking at the app but are still logged in and someone sends you a message. Sorry that wasn't clear.

My guess would be they come off your plan.
