I'm a complete video n00b, please help!

I've been sent a showreel on DVD, which I need to convert to flash to add to a website but the video contains out-of-date contact details as a caption towards the end of the clip. It's just white text on a black background. I need to remove this info but there's a soundtrack playing so I can't just crop the video at that point.

Is there some way I can just overlay a black screen or something to hide the contact info without affecting the soundtrack? Is this possible in iMovie? I've never used it before!

thanks

Well, first you'd have to rip the DVD and convert it to a format that iMovie can use.

Assuming you can do that, the easiest thing would be to just use still pic of a solid black background and lay it over the black clip that has the caption.
