Incredible news. But I'll be impressed when they can grow your own heart or limb and replace it on you.

Hey, just because we discover a technology billions of years after God did, doesn't make what He did any less of a miracle.

Link to the peer-reviewed scientific journal where He published his findings or it never happened. :p

Not those of us that realize that science and faith can coexist and that the authors of the first books of the Old Testament had no concept of or mean to write billion therefore representing time figuratively.

Probably the Flying Spaghetti Monster...

You watch far too much South Park.

You must have missed the episode "Go God Go" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Go_God_Go).

On their date, Dawkins and Garrison quickly warm to each other. Dawkins manages to convert Garrison to atheism (citing the Flying Spaghetti Monster, as a form of a logical fallacy). The two have sex; the next day, Garrison – just as outspoken about her new atheism as her former beliefs — denounces God to the class and makes Stan sit in the "dunce chair" after Stan makes the suggestion that evolution could be the answer to how and not why life is the way it is . Dawkins is at first reluctant to be so brazen, but Garrison tells him he was too soft on religious people in the past and that together they can rid the world of religion and all the violence it causes. :p

I don't know the scientists named in the yahoo article, but Glass and Venter published a paper (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/sites/entrez?Db=pubmed&Cmd=ShowDetailView&TermToSearch=17600181&ordinalpos=5&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum) in Science a few issues ago regarding this synthetic biology (artifical life is the wrong term). Basically they translplanted the genome of one bacterium (mycoplasma species) into another speceis, just to prove concept. All that is left to do is to find a technical procedure to reconstitute membrane integrity after genome extraction, and then transform the donor genome into the genome-free recipient cells. = synthetic microorganism

Knowing these guys, they've likely already done it and are just tweaking the system for greater efficiency and refining the protocol. Look for another Science paper within two years. It will be a big one.

Mrs. Garrison's tatas flashed in that episode still haunt me...
