Anyone know when Apple is going to start releasing HD movies for rent or purchase through iTunes? I love my ATV but wished the trailers and movies purchased online where pristine in visual quality. Thanks

The good news/bad news is that there a lot of PodCasts that are available for free that are 720p. While the content may not be scinitillating, I find some of it enjoyable. There are "travel" oriented 'casts that do a nice job of making you feel like being there, and some adventure ones, too.

If you haven't already, download some of these and see what :apple:TV can really do. And then be as impatient as the rest of us. :)

I am not so sure Apple TV is the best option for displaying HDTV.
I deliver to ciletns, and I am thinking of ging the TVisto route instead,

Back in my youth, there were people with "golden ears." Those people were employed by Bose, etc., as being able to discern the subtle differences between different speaker configurations. Nonetheless, those of us without golden ears could tell there might be a difference but, ultimately, it made no difference to us.

And 720P is less resolution than 1080P/I, but from what I understand from watching the "london" podcasts, 1080 i is on the way. And within weeks/days. So, if you can tell the diff between 1080p and 1080i I will be the first to annoint you the "golden one."

And 720P is less resolution than 1080P/I, but from what I understand from watching the "london" podcasts, 1080 i is on the way. And within weeks/days.

I doubt 1080 content will be made available for Apple TV since its hardware cannot display that resolution.

I remember reading once that 1080p and 1080i are not on the same level of performance. 720p and 1080i are quite similar, so yes you should be able to distinguish between 1080i and 1080p. With that said the Apple TV can display 1080i content, for 1080p content that will be a future improvement on version 2.0 o even 3.0. Since we can't still download HD content meaning movies and tv shows, that's what I'm waiting for to buy the Apple TV. I'd be willing to download the content even if it takes 3 days to download.

Regarding the Bose comparison, it should be quite difficult to see the difference between 720p/1080i and 1080p. But I guess if you are quite the enthusiast you'll notice something.

You'd be hard pressed to get anyone to tell the difference between any of the above resolutions on a 15inch screen. But on a 50inch screen there would be dramatic difference between the high and low end.

I own a 50 inch Sony SXRD and can see a difference. The mac podcasts are in HD and they look really good.

It's all about the screen and how close you sit to it. Sit 50' away from the world's greatest 50" TV, and you won't be able to tell.

The bigger the picture (via screen size or sitting closer), the more likely you are to be able to tell the difference.

Same number of pixels, no? And a refresh rate, and persistence of vision, that an eagle's eyes would not notice?

How Come When I Do A Search For My Personal Videos On Youtube Via Apple Tv, They Dont Show Up??? I Realize That They Have Not Yet Included The Entire Library Of Youtube But Ive Seen Some Videos That Have Been Just Added With As Little As 4 Views Coming Up In The Searches. What Gives????

When were your personal videos uploaded? If you upload a new one, I believe it should be available within a few hours. Old ones may take quite a while (i.e. backfilling).

Personally, I wonder if they might instead announce "better than DVD" quality like the iMovie setting. The 960x540, when widescreen.

That would be actually cool, better than what we have now obviously, of course, I'd rather have 720p.

THERE ARE SOME OLD VIDEOS THAT ARE LIKE....A YEAR OLD BUT IVE UPLOADED A HANDFUL OF RECENT ONES TOO. IT KIND OF PISSES ME OFF CUZ I WANT PEOPLE TO BE ABLE TO VIEW MY STUFF VIA ATV.

:) Just so you know, when people say that vinyl sounds warm, what they really mean is that the sound lacks crispness. Don't listen to these analog fanatics, they're all insane.

Let it download all night while you sleep, the higher resolution is great for large TV's. I really notice the difference in HD and standard content on mine.

Right now, no one knows when Apple will be delivering movie rentals, let alone HD movies. Lots of rumors on Wall Street, though.

In the meantime, there are plenty of Video Podcasts available on the Internet and iTS that are formatted for AppleTV-HD and Widescreen-SD. Some of these podcasts are pretty interesting as well. I watched a podcast of someone with an HD camcorder on the Star Tours ride at Disney. Pretty neat 3 minute podcast.
