XP to OSX malfunction?

Hey,

When I switch back to OSX from XP and then download something from the net to anywhere on my OSX HD. It's icon does not appear, however when I do a search it is found, yet still doesn't appear. If I select the file being downloaded say in Download Manager or Azureus, right click and then choose Reveal in Finder this works to make the file appear.

Also, Repairing Permissions seems to remedy the problem. However, all that is a pain in the butt. Does anyone have any other solutions? Or do I just have to repair permissions every time I switch back to OSX from XP?

I've had the same problem in the past, drove me insane. I never figured out what actually fixed it (possibly a fsck in single-user mode).

Hmm, perhaps a complete shutdown from XP and then Power on boot to OSX will remedy it? I have been just restarting from XP and OSX is set as my main OS so the computer always will automatically launch OSX unless I hold the Option key.

Anyways, i'll try that and see what happens.

I have the same problem… I usually fix it by restarting the Finder (Command+ALT+ESC)… :)

I also have a problem with the clock being a few hours wrong when I come back to the Mac side… – fixed automatically when I enter the "Time & Date" menu, but still… :(

It's strange since they're (XP & OSX) supposed to be completely separated! :confused: :(

The clock issue is due to Windows' unusual way of working with time. Most operating systems set the hardware clock to GMT then calculate the local time from there. Windows, on the other hand, sets the hardware clock to local time. When you boot back into OS X, it needs to synch online to correct the time.

shutting down in XP and turning power on to boot OSX didn't solve the problem. However, relaunching the finder seems to work, thanks for that tip.
