Need external Hard Drive ....

My MBP is awesome and need a good External Hard drive for photos and such I never had a need for one until now only need tops of 250G so can anyone point me in the right direction?

I bought a Mybook Pro from westen digital for my macbookpro. Im happy with it, the FireWire 800 is really sweet.

I have a FA Porsche edition Lacie 160gb and a MyBook Pro FW/USB 300 gb. I find them both to emit equal decibels of sound to my ear and both appear fast. I do believe though that if I had to do it all over again I would sell the Lacie and get another MyBook Pro because I like the LED light that shows how much room I have left. It's not a number or anything, but it's nice to see it.

it looks somewhat like a book and its made to standup WD wants you to put them on your bookshelf and have a whole shelf of them, i guess, they daisychain too, so thats nice

i have a wd passport... it's awesome. i did buy a mybook but it vibrated my desk too much so i got rid of it

thats very odd, mine sit on top of my external dvd writer and dont make a bit of noise what-so-ever or vibration, theres no fan...so that would mean there was something wrong with the harddrive

I also recommend the WD MyBook's. I have two: one for the house, one for the office. The one at home is a Pro that includes the firewire connection, as well as the USB, which is good for Macs. I prefer the Pro's prettier lights on the case too. ;)

I use Lacie disks for pro audio ( pro tools recording at performing very well at 96k sampling and they are a dream got 3 of them now ) they are great disks. The firewire 800 option is somthing that is not always easy find.

I got a Lacie quadra pro the other day and it was so noisy that I had to return it. Some say theirs are quiet, but mine was awfully noisy. When I looked up reviews of the actual segate hard drive, many people had noticed the same noises. In any case, impossible to concentrate when it was on my desk.

I got a segate freeagent pro from amazon yesterday and it seems great: fast, completely silent, nice looking and, amazingly, five years of warranty. I really value a company that is willing to back up their hardware with 5 years of support and warranty. The only weird thing about it is that it has several connection modules and the USB/ESATA is on one and Firewire on the other. THat means that I will have to swap them out if I need a different connection. It's a stationary drive so it won't matter much to me, but stillll..they should have had one USB/Firewire module and one esata module instead.

With hard drives, only time can tell if they're reliable or not....

I am torn between the passport and mybook, but really like the passports size.......

it really depends on if you want to drag it around with you, if not, get the mybook, its faster, and bigger, if you want it to be portable, get the passport

Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136078) has a 320 GB Western Digital Elements for $83. You could go for the 250 GB version, but it's not even $10 less. Not bad if you don't mind USB.
