According to their Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIM_%28band%29) entry:

The band was originally called His Infernal Majesty, but they soon changed this to simply HIM one of the reasons being satanic confusion, which Valo has repeatedly denied any satanic relevance.

They're musically talented I suppose but their songs are very whiney and emo. If that's your thing, knock yourself out. But why would you get a poster of a band you've never listened to?

With a name like His Infernal Majesty, a pentagram like symbol, and a fascination with the number 666, you can bet that they are either satanic or trying hard to look satanic.

They're not anti-God.
It's a big gimmick.

*shrug* I like them. Interviews with Ville Valo have been pretty intensive on the topic of what they do/don't think about religion. I suppose a lot of their music is about spiritual growth through enlightenment through direct experience, which could be regarded as a core tenet of satanism, but then also of Buddhism and countless other religions or spiritualities that don't insist on special revelation.

I still don't understand why you have the poster, though. :p

indeed. they're "love metal" as they call it themselves.
and i'd definitely not say that they're 'emo' either, but i guess people ally that to everything now huh?

I don't know about being Satanic or not, but if it's not God theyre representing, then who is it? To my recollection I don't recall ever hearing about grey areas in right or wrong, good and evil, life or death. It's either one or the other. Sin has no exceptions to indifference. Based on that I would have to say that they're Anti-God, whether or not they're doing it consciously.

And that in a nutshell is what is wrong with the world these days.

There's so much grey area in the world, it's not even funny.

They are either promoting satan or putting forth the image of satan worshipping to the masses; they are definitely not pro-God. I understand that they might not worship satan as their diety, but their intent is to make it look that way, which in and of itself is anti-God.

I personally love heavy metal. But it doesn't have to use satanic images to be dark and heavy.

The pentagram (and devil horns for that matter) have become universal symbols of Metal, and don't always necessarily have any satanic meaning behind them. I'm speaking for metal in general, not for HIM. Just trying to drop some knowledge...

There is definitely a satanic meaning behind the pentagram when it is unpside down. The three downward points represent rejection of the trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The symbol also can be a depiction of a goats head which is often a symbol for satan himself. It is also used as the Sigl of Baphomet which has been adopted by modern satanists and used as a representation of their religion.

This symbol can also be used to represent the Wiccan horned God though I doubt many metalheads are trying to show us a Wiccan symbol.

Though the use of the pentagram as a satanic symbol is fairly new, the genre of heavy metal has taken this symbol from this meaning and tried to make it their own. People have feared the pentagram because of what it might represent and heavy metal has used it to much the same effect.

The symbol does not respresent metal except through it's satanic relationship.

I really like them.

Their cover of Solitary Man is wonderful. Other great songs: Poison Girl, You are the One, The Funeral of Hearts, Rip out the Wings of a Butterfly.

I would have to agree with the image thing. They're just trying too hard to make it seem believable.

And if you don't like the music, and if you are young and interested in "extremal" music, then you'll easily get converted to HIM with pentagrams and 666s of these whimperers...
I like metal very much, but HIM is no metal anyway. They want to be - this has become very popular today (like Manson, ugly creature)

Oh my... A pentagram is a satanic symbol? Really? Check around and find out what it's origins are if it bothers you that much. Same as the Swastika was twisted into a symbol for abhorrent and evil acts, it's roots are actually peaceful (it's original meaning being "well-being"). None of these bands are "satanic" or "evil". Even if they were, as I used to say to my "goth" friends - "It's impossible to believe in satan without believing in god". The reason bands use this imagery in the first place is to shock bible-belting cultures into a frenzy. Once the kids see something so against the norm, they jump right on. This is how Marilyn Manson's career took off so well. In some parts of the world, Heavy Metal bands have been known to take part in ancient Pagan rituals. In Scandinavia, one band got that engrossed in the Pagan beliefs that one member freely gave his life and the other two members ate part of him. Very strange? Yes. Stupid? Yes. Satanic? Who knows? But returning to the original point, have a look and find out what the origins of the Pentagram are if you are inclined to do so. Mistaking Paganism for Satanism is quite easy, seeing as that is how the Christian religion has looked on it for centuries.

That being said, Poster #2 or #3 summed it up well, whiny emo, nothing more.

Um Hi! Tax-paying, law-abiding, Mac-using Atheist checking in.

Just wanted to clarify the fact that "Anti-God" does not ever equal "Pro-Satan".

By definition Atheists do not believe in a creating/ruling/controlling/intervening God of any kind, be it Yahweh, Jesus Christ, The prophet Mohammed, The Golden Calf, Vishnu, The Roman & Greek Gods of Mythology or Satan.

Again, to be completely clear.... "Anti-God" does not equal "Pro-Satan".

I dismiss all religions equally. ;)
