iPhone goes completely dark...can't use it

iphone has been working perfectly until yesterday when I received a phone call, and the screen was completely black. Home button didn't work, couldn't power off...but the phone still kept ringing until it went to voicemail.

Finally got a text 20 minutes later, then the phone was working properly.

Has anyone experienced this. I was 2 minutes from getting in my car to go to the Apple store to complain...politely of course...and then it came back on.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

Ever since the 1.0.2 update I have been having a couple problems that crop up from time to time.

While mine has not gone black for as long as yours, there have been more than a few times where I wake it and it shows a black screen for 15 seconds or so before the "slide to unlock" appears.

I am thinking I am reverting back to 1.0.1 if a wipe and restore of 1.0.2 does not work.

Which version do you have?

I've got version 1.0.2

I experienced another delay...although it was very short (2-3 seconds). Sounds like the same thing you're dealing with as well.

If I restore the phone, will it prompt me to reload a certain version. If it is version 1.0.2 that is causing the problem, I'll go back to 1.0.1 if necessary.

Just not exactly sure how that works.

From what I can tell you will get the same version 1.0.2 when you restore.

Mine has also gone black for 10-15 seconds as another member said. Just like anything, I'm sure the 1.0.3 update or 1.1 update will fix it depending on what number they go to next.

Ive been having a problem for a few weeks. When I use the Iphone as a receiver to take or place a call, after I take the phone away from my ear the screen goes dark. I have to push the home button or sleep/wake button a few time to get to the screen again...

Between this and other reported battery issues [battery life issues] I wonder how long before we'll see a 1.0.3 update.

Well I hate to say this, but I am glad I am not the only one with this issue.

I know for sure it did not do it in 1.0.1 and like I said before, i had this issue with 1.0.2 even before I starting modding the phone.

I had the same issue with the iphone going dark not during but after the call. I finally traced it to the new phone silicon cover that was covering the proximity and light sensors. The phone is fine after cutting a chunk of the silicon cover left of the ear speaker.
