Yes,
MacBook Pro, MacBook, iMac 20", and a bunch of previous macs. 2 PCs too, and plan on buying this (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8472431&type=product&id=1185265539418) Acer notebook tomorrow--looks like a good deal and wouldn't mind having an extra PC around. Mr. Amiga500
Aug 27, 2007, 05:05 AM
Strangely, I have never in my life ever bought a Mac or a PC. (just Amiga, which I'm still using)
So why am I here? I've been interested in Macs ever since I first saw Windows 3.11 at university back in 1994. After quickly discovering Windows was a piece of crap, I became "semi-obsessed" with Macs (mostly because they were "Amiga-like"). Every year I planned on buying a Mac, but they were too expensive and I kept waiting for the "ultimate new Mac". I bought Mac magazines. I designed "Mac-look" icons for my Amiga.
I came very close to buying a Mac in 1997, but the notebook in my price range had an ugly "speaker bump" design (1400?). Then I almost bought the G3 notebook in 1998, but decided to wait a bit. I became even more obsessed with Macs when OSX was announced (partly because it was even more "Amiga-like", but mostly because I was now being forced to use crap Windows at work and I desperately wanted something better). I almost bought a titanium Powerbook in 2001, but by then I'd found Macrumors and I decided to wait for the rumoured improvements.
Meanwhile, I discovered I could upgrade my old Amiga 500. I worked hard to make it look as good as OSX (well, as OSX-like as you can get with 16 colours ;)). I emulated MacOS 7.5.5, then MacOS 8.1. This Amiga has worked so well for me, I've been able to avoid buying a Mac for the last 5 years while waiting for the "ultimate new Mac" to come out. I thought the latest iMac would be "the one", but I'm not so sure... :D

Oh, yeah.
There are currently 6 macs in my house of 4 people.
My wife has a lab with 9 more, plus one in her office (her lab's due for an upgrade this year -- 7 new iMacs and 2 new PowerMacs!).
My kids each got a PC laptop from their school. Needless to say, when they arrive home, they get onto their Macs.
I think we're doing our part.

Strangely, I have never in my life ever bought a Mac or a PC. (just Amiga, which I'm still using)
That is absolutely amazing. A friend of mine has an old PowerMac G3 that he still uses for video production. Hey, if it works for you....
I switched to Mac in 2003. I used to build my own Winblows and Linux boxes. With the PCs, I thought it was normal to have daily crashes. Part of my regular maintenance was wiping the hard drive and doing a complete re-install every few months. The friend I mentioned above said to me, "You'll get to a point where you just want a computer to work and you don't have to fix it all the time. When you reach that point, get a Mac."
I was attempting to do video and audio production on my PC, and in the middle of a big project the computer crashed and I lost all my work. So I got a PowerMac G4 (the mirrored door one). I knew nothing about OS-X and was using OS-9. I hated it and tried to return the machine, but CrampUSA wouldn't take it back. I found a local Apple reseller who took my G4 in trade for a new dual processor PowerMac G5. After a couple months with that machine, I abandoned the world of Microshaft forever and am a happy Mac convert. Computer crashes are now an anomaly. Like the ads proclaim, it just works.

Well duh. Macbook Pros, Pros (both on their way out), XServes, XServe RAIDs. Coming soon - more MBP's and an iMac.
Building your PC is not a path to building better hardware if you don't know enough even to put together a reliable PC. Blaming the OS for an inadequacy elsewhere suits... hmm, the typical Mac user, come to think of it.

I have an iBook (late 2005), a 15" powerbook (1.0Ghz, 512mb, 60GB HD[pooched]) that was newly aquired (given to me by my bro due to it not working, I got it to work the hard drive is pooched though) and on Tuesday my 17" SR HR 250GB HD, 2GB Ram Mackbook Pro will be here:D:D
So yeah 3.... all laptops... hmm maybe one day I'll get a desktop:)
I got my iBook (first mac) 2 years ago in 2005, been on the forums since 02 IIRC, switched at least 2 people (including my bro, helped him get his powerbook in 2003)

Actually I knew quite a bit about building PCs. And I also ran a couple of computer labs with machines configured by Dell. The computers that I built always ran more reliably than the Dell machines. In the labs it was quite typical for our students to see the blue screen of death a few times a week. I converted all of our labs over to Macs four years ago, and since then we haven't had any crashes or down time. None.
I spent most of my life researching motherboards and video cards and RAM and software, just trying to get everything to work well on a PC. Since Apple is able to control both the hardware and much of the software, I no longer have to waste my time configuring anything. The result is that I'm getting much more done now with higher quality than I did with a PC. I think that makes me a "typical Mac user."

Yes, I own several. However, I have also used many Macs that I did not own. Some were owned by family and friends but most were at school or at work.
I also own a few computers with older versions of Windows that mostly gather dust. I pull one out once in a while to play old games and that's about it. At work I still use Windows.

Why not let the users/customers decide? Steve mentioned at the last special event that notebook sales increased much more than desktop sales. You can say that's because notebooks are cooler but as he also said that doesn't apply to other companys. There must be another reason. Maybe because Apple notebooks are very good - probably that's true. But that could also mean that their Desktops are not as good.
I don't think iMac sales would be cannibalised. Maybe a bit. The overall sales would go up but Steve doesn't like those machines and that's why there won't be such a computer

I don't have one at the moment but I would definitely like to get one once I get the money or if I can find a good deal on a used MB/MBP.

Vote: Poll: Do you own a Mac? (http://www.macpolls.com/?poll_id=552)No offense but this has to be the ultimate stupid poll. What are we expecting to achieve here?
A poll is supposed to gather opinion, not be a simple binary question that refers to nothing other than itself.
Just as an argument involves more than the simple gain-saying of the opposing members remarks, a poll involves more than simply asking a stupid question.

My 2.4GHz 24" iMac is the third iMac in the house.
2.0GHz 20" Core DUO & 17" 2.0GHz C2D
If Apple offered HD DVD or Blu-ray Disc on their Mac Book Pro, this would've been my fourth! LOL

Yes - I own many of them going back to the very beginning. I have 6 current Macs in use, and 4 of them are Intel based.
Good Stuff - never really had a problem worth takling about with any of them.
Cheers,

I own a 2.2 Ghz 120 GB MacBook. It's is going to be sent back to Apple on Monday because they came out with the faster Penryn model. It's all being done without a restocking fee even though I opened it.:)

I bought my first Mac, an eMac, in 2003. I've never looked back. The eMac still runs as well today as it did way back when. My MacBook, on the other hand, is a bit more temperamental.

Bought my first MAC in 1999 and I have remained a devotee - which is why I joined this site 5 years ago. Currently, my entire family - both parents, my son, my siblings and their spouses, my current girlfriend all use MAC's - with one exception. Always good to have an exception.
