Should the link be to the WD Interface Guide (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/resources/DriveCompatibilityguide.asp) instead?
In any case, OS X most definitively support Serial ATA, all new Macs have been shipping with SATA drives for a while.

They DO tell you exactly what port/ports the drive supports. If it says SATA, it is SATA. If it says USB, it is USB and so on.

Gigabit ethernet.

If it says SATA, then it is SATA. It is an internal drive. To use that drive in an iMac, you have to open the computer (and most certainly void any warranty and risk damaging the computer) and replace the existing drive.
If you are looking for an external WD drive, go to External Storage (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.asp?driveid=324) instead of Desktop Drives.

This one is old parallel ATA, instead of serial ATA. Different technology. Still an internal drive, though.
thanks
You are welcome.

i dont know what to say here
many many thanks.
i thought by being a desktop drive as what are actually "external drives but powered separately, i.e. non-portable)
once u said, u gonna have to break open my iMac and dump it in, i got the full image. :D
i should be actually looking into the external storage section, where no SATA and EIDE stuff to worry about
thanks again
