Hi all,

I was wondering if there was a way to change the way Safari downloads photos off the web. Here's what I mean.

In IE, when a web page loads, the photos will come up. I right click the photo and choose (Download to Disk) and whammo, I'm done.

In Safari, the web page will load and the photo will come up. I can right click and choose (Download to Disk), but then I have to wait for the photo to download again.

Why can't Safari just grab the image from the cache? On a broadband connection, it doesn't matter. But I'm on 56k dial-up and it's a pain.

Are there any settings I need to change? Thanks.

Doesn't seem so, but to speed it up if you're pressed for time on a slow internet connection, do a screen capture:

Shift + Command + 4

Then highlight the pic/screen area you want to save with the crosshairs!

You get a generic PDF called Picture1.pdf on your desktop (or 2, or 3, the number after "Picture" depends on how many you do in a session).

Using Photoshop you can then save the PDF as a .jpeg for the net.

You don't need Photoshop to change the format. Just open the pic in Preview, go to File --> Export... and you can choose from a list of file types to convert it to, including jpeg.

True but you may also want to crop it a bit more, fix things on it like lighting, contrast, or colours...or maybe resize it, spin it, tweak it, put a shadow on it, lable it...and Preview ain't gonna do any of that!

All you need to do is click and drag the image to your desktop from the Safari Window. How easier can it be?

I think that still re-downloads the image again, it opens up the DL manager and you see the progress bar move as it acquires the image.

Wow,

I thought this thread was dead.

I guess there aren't any settings to switch or anything. Maybe I'll suggest this to Apple and they can incorporate it into future revisions of Safari.

If I recall, even in ie, downloads, such as images, show up in the download manager too. The only difference that I see is that Safari opens the download manager by default, of which I find a little annoying sometimes, but then I always had to go get ie's manager so I don't know what the happy area is.

I am on a broadband connection so I am not noticing anything.

And to answer the question up top. Safari will re-download the photo if you "drag-n-drop" or "right-click download".

Seems like an easy thing for Apple to fix. Just grab the image from the cache.
