SATA or ATA?

This may be a dumb question but:

A friend of mine has a dell latitude D600 with a 20 gig harddrive. They would like to replace it with something larger and I have a 80 gig SATA notebook drive, would that work in this machine? Thanks.

Not likely. Thats a fairly old machine and likely to be ATA.
